Hi all- This morning, Riker started making this odd noise and was sneezing more than normal-and it sounds 'snotty'. He also has a damp sounding click when he breathes, and had a cloudy looking "gunky" in the corner of one eye. Nose is still normal pink. He is going into the vet at 5:00 when Dr. Emch comes in. Dr Emch isn't terribly glider experienced, but wants to learn all he can, and cares about the animals. What do I tell him to do for this? Fecals and urine will be done-what else do I ask for if this is respiratory, and what meds to suggest? I haven't dealt with this personally before. Any advice is appreciated. -My husband will update after the vet, as I'll be at work until 2am. His screen name is danceswithgliders. Thank you.

He does a contented one sometimes in his sleep, but it's dry sounding. (Some of the others do, too) With this one he's awake and it sounds like liquid in there, so I'm worried, too. He was with me all day yesterday, so I know this just started. Any suggestions as to tests/meds for this?

I'm sorry, my husband was supposed to update. Beginning to think its just one of those things in life I could do without sometimes! Riker saw the vet-have to take a urine sample back, he wouldn't produce enough, fecals fine. One lung sounded good, but there's a slight 'rattle' in the other-so he's on 14 days of baytril. My poor little guy! His appetite is good though. I'll keep everyone updated, sorry so late-drove home in a blizzard and the road disappeared. This vet couldn't get a culture, by the time he could have sent it it wouldn't have been viable. I can get one Mon if necessary. Hopefully the baytril will work on whatever is going on in there. (Fingers crossed). Thanks for all the help!

Glad to hear the update. sounds like it's not TOO big a deal since you caught it early. I'm especially glad to hear that since I think I'll probably be following you down the same road with Peepers. The little click I was hearing in her breathing is more noticeable today, so I plan to take her in. How do you administer the Baytril and how often?

My thoughts & prayers with you and the Cmdr!
I just wanted to note that if he is taking Baytril prior to the C&S on Monday, it is highly unlikely that you will get a good culture. I learned this the hard (& expensive) way when Bugsy was ill. Cultures need to be taken prior to antibiotic ingestion.

Hey Jen,I am sorry to hear about your little man. With MoJo HIs clicking didnt start until the day I took him to the vet, within 24 hours passed away. He didnt want to eatmuch though, its a very good thing he is eating. Take himin the bathroom a couple times aday and let the bathroom steam while the hot shower is on, it will kind of make it hard to breathe but it loosens up anyhting inside the lungs. I did this with MO, and it didnt seem to work. I think their must have been something else going on that brought the Pnu on. To go down so fast. Anyway I am not sure. I just hope your little man is strong and from the way it sounds he is much better offf than MOJo was.

His nose is a bit darker pink than normal today, but still pink, and he has a warble in his chirp but appetite is still good. I think the meds are starting to loosen things (hence the warble), and we have the humidifiers on now. His clicking isn't any worse, though. Keeping a close eye on him. Have no clue where he picked this up-but weather has been changing, hot, cold, dry, rain, snow, pressure ups and downs, and it figures if any of our guys was going to get something it'd be him. In a way that's good-I know all of his noises and mannerisms so well I usually can tell the instant something's off. I still feel really bad for him though, and he'll get lots of love and cuddles and even more spoiling than usual. I know once on the baytril, culture results can be skewed-won't get one unless things start getting worse with him-meaning the antibiotic is not doing what it should. He's not having trouble breathing, just that tiny noise in it I could hear, but the vet needed the stethoscope, and yep, definitely something there. He said it didn't sound bad yet, or like there was a lot in there, but it is there. I figure it will take a day or two for the baytril to really start improving things, takes time to work. In the meantime he's warm, humidified, hand fed and pampered, and plenty of fluids. My precious little buddy.
