Just wondering for those who have been through lots of babies, what is that rapid shushing-chitting sound that Mom is making? It's almost like she is breathing hard on the joey - from my observation.
TIA,

I think you are talking about the noise that mom makes when she is trying to get the joey off the nipple. She also shakes her body a bit. It is completly normal

It is a good idea to check in on them though If the mother is out of her nest box and the joey is very young and she is doing this the joey might be left outside the nest box and get chilled.

Yeah I made a post because mine just had a joey come oop on Nov 6. I was worried and took her to a not so experienced vet (with exotics) who said she was ok. Then I made a post on here under "shaking" and this seems like the same thing because mine does this then shakes her back legs a bit esp when the joey is pulling at her pouch. I didnt know they would try to shake them off...but guess so.

Tessa is good. Mom and Dad were old enough to be good to her.
Thanks for asking.

Gee, I think my SugarBear makes this noise, too! But HE isn't "nursing" . I've tried to post this sound file here, but it it's too big.
I've tried to record him and post it on my *cough* website... can anyone identify this sound?
Thanks!

It sounds like when he's "you know" to himself. But since the recording is a bit difficult to hear, I am not absolutely sure. Mine makes similar sounds when he is by himself.

The sound Mom makes is a sh-sh-sh-shush-chit over and over, and yes her body does shake. The baby isn't big enough to go back in, but she gets her head part of the way back in to nurse.

Thanks... I have had no clue what that noise was about. He seems fine in every way. What curious little critters we have!
