Ok, so I tried to read up in previous threads about genetics and coloring etc, but I was completely lost. From what I understood, since I know nothing of Smeagol & Precious' ancestry, even though they are both grays, they very well could be hets and their babies could be some other color? Is this right? If not, could someone please explain in dummy terms?

Possible... yes, remotely. But I'd call it highly, highly unlikely.

Its been awhile since I studied anything about genetics, but I believe if you have a normal glider that has a recessive color gene and you breed it with another normal glider with a similar recessive gene....it is possible to breed a glider that brings out that recessive gene. There is actually a chart to figure out genetics, but it would help to actually know what genes your gliders have.
Hope I helped a bit.

Right. I should have been more clear. Sorry.

IF they were both hets (of the same type) then yes, it is possible that they would produce colored joeys.

What I'm saying is highly unlikely is the chance that both are hets.

There was a post I read a month or so back from someone who got a surprise color from a pair that had had always had grey joeys in the past. Maybe it was a white tip, rather than a cinn or blonde. I think that was it. Do a search for white tip, I think that was in the title.

Yep! You are correct. It was a white tip. The thread should still be several down from this one... and got quite long!

If you had two het gliders and bred them together you would have a 25% chance of getting that color. Thats about all I know

I don't know if anyone is still reading this post, but I just thought I'd mention the post titled "QUESTIONING BREEDING OF RARE SG" the punetts square that they are talking about is what I meant when I told you there is a way to track the future genetics of your SG's. If you go to the post...you might find some good info...just an FYI
