Hello,
Well i have a Joey who was o.o.p on August 12,2004. He is currently 14 weeks old. When do you think is the best time for neutering? or rather How early can this procedure be done?

It depends on how your vet is going to neuter the glider. If you vet chooses the least invasive way possible, you'll have to wait until his pompoms drop or your vet and make a small incision in his abdomen and remove the pompoms before they drop.

my vet will only do them when the pompoms drop. That depends on your boy. So I'm not much help with when that will be lol.

Babies 8 weeks oop. to four months oop. .....torb for the first 24 hours. For males over four months oop. .....torb is given for the first 36 hours.

This was taken from Judie's post in Health and Hygiene on neutering. As I understand it, you can neuter at 8 wks oop???

Leyna, how does your vet do neutering...can he do it before the drop or only after?

My vet does neutering based on the weight of the glider, she likes them to be at least 80 grams. Murphy was 5 mos oop; bald spot was just appearing.

My vet gave me 3 options for neutering. She can neuter before or after the pompoms drop it's up to me... We both agreed on neutering after the pompoms drop, removing the pompoms, and not using stitches, instead using skin glue.

80 grams, lol, that wouldn't work for me. I have a male that's just barely 70 grams and he's full grown (6 years old).

Age of neutering and method of wither to remove the Pom depends on your vet.

My vet will do the surgery on a baby as young as 8 wks oop.

The Pom is left and no glue or stitches or used to close the incision. Torb is given for pain management at home for the first 24 hours. Larger babies and adults...Torb is given for 36 hours.

Remove the wheel from inside the cage area for a few days till the glider appears to be healed.
