Does anyone have a list of safe metals to use for glider toys? Also, does anyone know what those little bells they sell at the craft stores are made of? It doesn't say on the package & I don't want to buy any until I know what metal they are.

To my knowledge most metals are safe except for galvenized metal. The gavenization is the irritant that can cause UTIs.

I knew about galvanized, but I thought I heard somewhere that nickel was bad too. I just want to be sure that anything I make is 100% safe. Bump...

Just to quote SunCoast: "Galvanized and zinc? They both stink! If it ain't nickel you could be in a pickle. If it's stainless steel, consider that a deal!" (taken from http://sugar-gliders.com/store.htm#safe, 11-28-04) I find that the rhyme kinda helps me when I am looking for things... thought I'd pass it on.

the galvinezed you can wash w/ vinagar evry time you change the cage and then let it sit for an hour and wash it with water and put them back in that is what my vet told me he had glider like 12 but he gave all of them away and only kept two and the galvinezed was cheaper also!!!

So what about the bells? I did buy some of the open bottom kind, so their claws don't get stuck. I just want to be sure they are safe before I make a toy to attach them to. How can we tell if it is a safe metal?
