Well this just shows how ignorant I am. I feel so horrible sitting her crying because she passed because it was my fault. After she ate she was fine and I was playing with them and having fun I went to bed and woke up this morning and went into the glider room and the male was having a snack and I thought I heard the female crab so I went back this afternoon after I cleaned there cage and there was the male wrapped around the female and she was dead he looked so sad. There was alot of dirreah on the floor. I dont know what to do I guess I should have called the emergency vet last night and got her in ASAP but I thought things would be okay.. She was also missing half her tail and her arm was in her mouth like she was chewing on it. First time I had ever seen her mulilate and she was dead. She bum hole was also really widened. What is Jynx going to do now that she is gone? What I am I going to do? I feel so bad

Oh no! Oh I am sooo sorry for your loss! It was not your fault! Please don't blame yourself at all - you might want to get her in to the vet to find the reason she died and get Jynx in too just to be sure he is okay...

Don't blame yourself...I know that's what we always do first and then we question what we could have done differently. It is not your fault. You did not do anything intentionally to hurt her. Prayers and hugs are sent to you.Give Jynx a lot of extra love, you both need it right now.

PitsnHerps - I'm sorry she didn't make it. Gliders are just SO good at pretending they are fine. By the time you notice they are sick, quite possibly it is almost too late. And then she confused you by "coming around" and acting normally. I know that you made the best decision you could make at the time.
Please spend EXTRA time with Jynx. That he was curled around her is so sad. He's obviously going to miss her - so give him time to grieve, and give him extra love. You two have each other for now.

Please accept my condolences, but try not to blame yourself. These little ones are experts are hiding things and even the most experienced owners can't always tell until it is too late. Know your baby is safe and not in any pain and you will see each other again. Your other glider will be sad and confused, so you must give him extra attention. Again, I am so very sorry.

Thank so much! Hes acting very crabby and seems sad without her. When he was clinging to her when she was dead I think he was trying to keep her warm or something.
I dont know what to do? Should I try and find a new buddy for him? I dont really want to replace baby Roo with a new one so quickly but if it will help him I will!

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Everyone is right give the other one lots of extra attention. It will take him a while to grieve. I'm new to owning gliders myself, so I don't know how soon you should attempt to get him a new cage mate, but I would think you should wait a little while. You both need time to grieve over your loss. Just remember all the good times you had together. I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers. God bless you all.

I'm so sorry Know that you really were trying to get her the care she needed, you just didn't have enough time to do so It's really not your fault...
Spend as much time with him as you possibly can. He will be grieving for quite a while and it will break your heart to watch him do it. He will search the cage for her and he will weep for her This is a normal part of grieving although it breaks our hearts to witness it. Wait a few days and then decide whether you're ready to get him a new companion yet or not. He will definitely need a new one, but the timing is up to you and how much time you can spend with him & how much comfort he will accept from you. With my Pika, when Cricky died, it was about a month before I was able to get Nara as a new companion for her... Every day was agony & heartbreak until Nara came - it was amazing how quickly she & Nara bonded to each other If I had been able to get Nara sooner, I would have, but the timing was okay and Pika was able to get past her grief once she had Nara...

I am so sorry for the loss of Roo and the pain that comes with loving a sugar glider. As for the male... he needs to be vet checked asap. Fecal smear with fecal float to be sure he does not have a bacterial or parasitic problem. Best if he could have been seen today but if not symptonmatic for signs of illness then Monday will be fine. God Bless.

PitsnHerps: I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. You can spend hours on end playing the "coulda/woulda/shoulda" game...and finish with exhausting yourself & feeling badly. Many of us have lost babies & know your anguish right now. Give your little man extra time & attention, then see what the vets have to say about his health issues. Make sure they do a "fecal float" and urinalysis (Diascreen 7) to possibly find out what went wrong. After Jinx gets a clean bill of health, it will help him and you to go in search of a new companion. Think of it as not pushing your other little girl out of your lives...it's more of filling a void that Jinx will especially have in his.

Thanks so much for all your support. Hes so crabby now I check on him everyhour and he just is crabby. Last night he was very crabby and wouldn't come out of his cage usually hes the first out. He was acting frantic looking in the pouches and toys looking for her I think. It just upset me the most how he was clinging to her body. My friend in Edmonton 4 1/2 hrs from me said that she doesn't want her gliders anymore and is going to give them to me but I have to take her short tailed oppossum too. Is there going to be a chance that they wont get along? She said she thinks they are males (2) but not sure and doesn't know if they are neautered or spayed. So I will take them to the vet too. I want to make sure hes healthy before any more gliders come home too. Do I take in his poop to the vet? Whatt tests should I ask to be done.
