Our third joey, is a cinimon, very small, but other wise healthy. Her eyes have been open for about three weeks, and she is a tuff little thing, but I was looking at piictures of other joeys that still have there eyes closed who are bigger than her..

I don't know, she did come out of pouch early and was a twin, but man, I am not sure. . . Anyone have pictures??

OKay, I think there is something wrong, I went back and looked at the pictures of her brothers at the age she is now and they were buch bigger, che compares to them at three weeks except for one thing, she has those six week old stray hairs! (Those hairs that stand out every where as they get their adult coat. . .) Could this have to do with comeing OOP early??? I don't think I should be worried, she acts healthy, and always has s full belly, but gee, she is tiny! I will post the pictures on Tueasday evening, maybe even tomorrow morning. .

I would like to see a pic of this little one. When my first set of twins came OOP I thought they were tiny, but after a week or so, they filled out and seemed just perfect.

Small or not, she sounds perfectly healthy!

I have a male glider that is 4 months old and doesn't even weigh 40 grams yet. He's about the size of a 3 week old joey as well. His brother (my Brodey) was 70 grams at 13 weeks OOP... Some gliders just grow at different rates than others. If she seems normal and healthy other wise, I wouldn't worry about it.

[:"green"]Recently, at the Ohio Glider Get Together at DolphinKellie's, I saw the tiniest glider ever! She was a "full-grown" adult, but only the size of most 3 month old gliders. According to Kellie, her brother was the same way. Sometimes, just like with humans, there are midget gliders. I'm not sure why. Now, that's not to say that your little cinnie is going to remain tiny. It's entirely possible that she just hasn't caught up yet from being oop early... However, if she is totally healthy in every other way, I really wouldn't worry about her. Kellie's tiny glider is totally precious & adorable! She is also very healthy!
I also have a glider that is still quite tiny even though she is 5 months oop. She was not only a premie, but her mommy rejected her & I had to hand-feed her since day 1 oop. Other than her size, she is perfectly normal & healthy. I just rejoice that she survived!
Good luck with your little one... and enjoy! [/]

I just weighed mine. My 9 1/2 week old male is 70 g and my 16 week old female weighs 56 g. Should I be concerned? They both are very healthy and very active.

Is she 6 weeks old in this picture? I would be a little concerned if she is. Even her fur does not seem to be fluffed out as it should be by 6 weeks.

Well, I'm confused. How old is she in these pics?

Is she still totally dependent on Mom, or is she beginning to eat some on her own? I know all of our joeys begin exploring licky foods at about 4 weeks. And progress very quickly on to the good stuff!

Truly, if she's 6 wks OOP in the pics, she does appear very small for her age, and her coat doesn't appear to be as thick and full as it should be.

She's a little sweetheart.

Yes she is six weeks. . Right now she has that funny phase that the others went through at her age (hair fzzed out every where, trying to get ther adult coat)
--Kat
( I have gotten alot of mixed replies, "She's small, but if she's healthe don't worry" "Have her checked by a vet", but I'll call today and ask his opinion.)

Well, if she's eating well and all other systems are functioning properly, I wouldn't be too alarmed. Just like humans, gliders can come in all sizes.

Kellie and Shaun (DolphinKellie) do have a wee little, full-grown baby girl and she's as healthy as can be; just has not been able to have joeys, as I recall. Likewise, our gliders range from 118 to 198 grams. Cheetos weighs in at 198 (needs to lose another 15 or so grams), but has a "much" larger frame than Samson (his dad) at 118. Also, the Cincy Zoo has "miniature gliders"; they are tiny.

We take the joeys we keep, in to the vet for a wellness check at 3 mos just to start a health record. So, you might want to take her in anyway, just to check her out.

She's a baby doll. Are you going to keep her?

I'm going to have to say that I recommend having her vet checked. Also, I don't feel that calling him is the way to go -- he needs to be able to see how thin the little thing is. Her body and head shape look more like that of a freshly OOP joey. By 6 weeks she should look basically like a small adult. Also she appears awfully thin... would suggest supplement feeding her if you're not already.

As far as the hair thing... I've not heard that before, nor seen it in any of our joeys. Within 2-3 weeks or so of coming OOP they are fully furred and fluffy, except the tail.

Best of luck to you and this wee one... I really do feel there is cause for alarm with her. She's not just small for her age, she really does appear to be unwell.

We're here to help in any way we can, but since we cannot see her in person, touch her, etc... a good knowledgeable vet or even a good, knowledgeable breeder in your area will be a wonderful thing.

I'd have to agree with Natalie, after looking at all those pictures, she appears to be way too small, and possibly unhealthy. No blame going on here, just my comment that it doesn't look like she is getting all the nutrition she needs. She looks more like a 2-3 week oop joey than anywhere close to a 6 week oop joey.
I would suggest a vet check for her and mom. Good luck and please keep us updated.
Just had to say that when Amy Michelle had Sophie, a hand fed joey, and I saw here at eithor 4-6 six weeks oop, and I thought she was so small, but hair looked good and full. This little mommy fed joey looks even smaller that Sophie was.

I have to agree...this little one is very thin. And the the baby should be fully furred and feel like satin.

Babies that are handfed often will be small and fur may a little sparse but will catch up to others their own age within a few months of weaning.

This baby looks undernourished for some unknown reason. And if other babies of this pair have sparse coated babies...then I suggest a vet check for them. Need to have a fecal float and smear along with a cytology to see if there is a parasitic or bacterial problem.

What kind of diet do you feed?

I feed BML, but durring the pregnancy and joey stages I add extra protten for the mother...
--Kat

The vet's office here is a pain, I will try to get a appointment, goodness, another eighty dollars down, but worth every penny. ..
She appears to be eating well now, and is VERY livley, but we'll see what the vet sez...

She is also not as bald as she looks, she has hair, even on her tummy. . it is just short, The funny fluffy phase I'm talking about is normally at about four weeks, when you notice the occasional hair that is too long, and look loke little wiskers all over their bodies, except hers is ALOT of little wiskers, VERY fluffy, it didn't show up in the picture, but it is adorable....

Chi-Bit, as we call her hasn't grown, but she has developed. . . She has a full coat of hair, loves apples, And knows how to use the rest-room. The vet still doesn't know what to say about her, bue thinks she is healthy (She bit his finger and had great grip dispite the tiny mouth.).

I'll get some new pictures.
