Last night was a very difficult night for me. One of my beloved gliders crossed that rainbow bridge. Around 6pm last night I went in to feed the gliders, as normal, and noticed Fire laying on the cage floor. At first I thought he was already dead but when i touched him he twitched. I got my hubby to help me get him out as the cage is tall and from the door of the cage I was having a difficult time reaching him. My husband did get him out, and Fire bit him and held on..this was the first time fire had ever bit anyone so it was shocking. He laid their limp in our hands for a couple min as we tried to syringe feed him glideraid and then honey. Then he began having seizures. One every five min or so at first, then progressively closer and closer. This was very difficult to watch him go through. We considered taking him to the nearest emergency vet but decided with the frequency of seizures that even if they were to give him a shot of something there would be little that could be done to save him, as the damage was already done, as even inbetween seizures he was not aware of what was going on, his surroundings and just laided there. We do not know what triggered the seizures...to our knowledge he had never had one before. He passed away from one last seizure at 7:45 pm last night. He was with us the entire time and his mate got to see him and say her goodbyes.
I would like to thank Ellen and Marie who were on the phone and my support through all of this..it means alot that you both helped me through this emotionally. I pray that no one else ever has to witness a glider go through this...
May Fire rest in peace.

Virginia-I am so sorry that you and your husband and Fire and his mate had to go through this. It was painful to read your story, so I know that your pain must be so much worse. You are such a support to so many people in this community, myself included. I hope that you will let us share this burden with you and that you will be able to feel the love and support that we are sending to you during this difficult time. Healing prayers coming your way from St. Louis. alice

Virginia--I am truly sorry to hear of Fire's passing. That is one difficult thing to endure. At least you were there in the last moments of Fire's life. I guess there will be one more angel in glider heaven now. Fire must have been needed. Words can not convey my deepest sympathy for you and your family. However, do know this, my prayers and thoughts are with you. Take the time to grieve and remember the good times that you both enjoyed together. I am truly sorry for your loss. I will be praying for you. Thanks for mustering the strength to post and let us all know. Your pain is shared by all of us now and that should help make your burden a tad lighter. May God bless you, your husband, and all the critters still with you or in pet heaven!

I am very sorry to hear about Fire. There is nothing to say to really make you feel better right now, just know we all feel the sadness. Fire loked like a sweet little guy. Another sweet up above. You all are in my prayers tonight...

I'm so so sorry for your loss. I know how much each and every one of your gliders mean to you, and I know it must have been hard watching Fire go through that. I know the pain of losing gliders, but it can't compare to what you went through. My prayers are with you , and I hope you will be comforted knowing that Fire is playing in glider heaven right now. Cling tight to the rest of your little ones, and give them lots of kisses for me!!!

Virginia, you and John were so brave. I know Fire felt the love and heard the sweet comforting words that you said to him, he knew he wasnt alone. And I feel sure that having his beloved cage mate nudging him and being there helped.

Glider kisses and hugs and prayers from the Ross"s Glider Cove. The Rainbow bridge is a wonderful place.

We love you.

I am so sorry about Fire, sending you lot's of ((((((((hugs))))))))) and kisses and prayers thru the tears. As Peppony said, Fire must have been needed, and was so lucky to have you there when his time came. I am sure he was comforted by your presence as well as your husbands and his mates. There is still so much to learn about these precious babies. I know it will take time, but the pain will heal and you will have your good memories of all the fun that Fire was. In the meantime, praying for God to be holding you all in his arms and helping you thru the pain and loss.

Virginia,

I am so sorry hon. I know how painful it is to go through something like this. Just know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers and you should feel comforted by the fact that you did all you could for him and he knew how loved he was. You provided him with a great life while with you and a great passing over. At least his last hour was not spent with strange vets poking and proding him. You did the right thing. We love ya hon.

So, so, sorry to hear you lost Fire. It is not a pretty site to watch your baby die.

As to seizures........when a person or an animal comes out of one........they are dazed for many minutes depending on the type. When one dies from seizuring it is not the seizure that causes death but lack of oxygen. With one right after another the animal cannot breath due to the resp. system being supressed. Often seizures can be controled or lessened with medication from a vet.

Seizures are usually a secondary problem to another illness.

May your little guy rest in pease. I know he will truly be missed by you and your family as well as his mate. I wish you the best in the future with your gliders.
