PROTECTION from PEE and POO! #31372

Everyone seems to enjoy having their gliders run around or run up and down the couch. If you know they are going to pee and poo I find it difficult to let them out of my hands. I don't want my furniture or curtains ruined. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

What do some of you do to protect your home since they can't be house broken?

I guess I could throw an old blanket over the couch and then I could wash it as needed.

If you put them in there cage before you have them out to play they can do there diz before they play. This is what I do and they have not had any oops sents I started.

yup, it won't get everything but it'll sure make it much better.

also usually if you wake them in the cage and let them play a while they'll go potty and are less likely to go (as much) all over your stuff

Will do!--Thanks. Usually we come home and pull them right out of the pouches. They usually aren't too happy about it and they pay us back. If we get them out of the pouch before they wake up good then they don't bite us or get upset. I guess I'll just gently push them out of their pouch so they can do their business. Maybe coax them out with a little yougart.

As soon as ours wake up, we put them on their perch, that way, they go there right away. They still go elsewhere, but the bulk of the mess stays there.

I don't remember, are yours babies? You can "potty" them like a kitten by stimulating (wiping with a damp Q-tip or soft cloth) their cloaca. They'll usually go right away when you do that. I've heard some say they can continue to do that even after they are adults.

Yes, my son still "pottys" his adult gliders. It doesn't eliminate all accidents, but it helps.

I have suggested that to somebody else, but then somebody said they had heard that you shouldn't do it after they are adults. I am really curious about this; maybe I'll make a post about it. (=

Chip is almost 2 years old -- Murphy is 7mos OOP. We still do it with them. Of course, we've had both of them since they were joeys -- and they've been "pottied" from the first day Zack started carrying them in the bonding pouch. So they are used to this routine because it has been done daily their entire lives.

Zack's routine is he places the bonding pouch on top of the cage, takes one out of the sleeping pouch and puts it on top of the cage and potties him. Both guys when they're done go straight to the bonding pouch and back to sleep.

Hope this helps! I've got a pair of 2yo rescues -- I haven't attempted to try this with them yet -- I think I'd be eaten alive!!

I just throw an old beach towel over the back of the couch. He usually sticks to that part of the couch as it is the easiest way to get to the curtians! Anyway, when he makes a mess, I just throw it in the laundry and get another. It's nice because I can pull it off easily if someone is coming over.
I think these work best because they are really absorbent. My little one can produce an amazing amount of pee and it has never soaked thru.
