My Francis has gone to the rainbow bridge today.

I woke this morning to find his pouch soaked with blood. He was coughing and vomiting blood all over me, as well. He was alive, but in a pouch alone... the first he's been away from Sug since she's had the joeys IP. The triplet joeys were not his, as he's been neutered for several years, but he certainly believed they were his. He has been so watchful over Sug as she carried the joeys... making sure she was allowed to eat first, grooming her, and staying by her side. I am so thankful that God allowed him to remain with us long enough for him to see the joeys come out of pouch yesterday.

I found him bleeding from his mouth this morning and rushed him to the vet. They did x-rays and found that he had a mass in the bottom lower part of his skull which had burst and was bleeding down his throat. He was aspirating and swallowing his blood. There was already a large amount of the fluid in his lungs, and he could barely breathe. We put him down so he could go peaceably instead of suffocating. I am thankful that I was able to be there and holding him instead of having him suffocate alone in his pouch.

I will miss my sweet boy terribly. He was one of my first gliders and has always been my favorite. We shared a very special bond and he was very clear that I was his most favorite companion.

I will miss the way he snuggled in my shirt and under my chin at every chance he got.

I will miss the way he always seemed to know what I was thinking and would share my joys and lick my tears when I cried.

I am grateful for the way he took Apollo into his family and made him at home.

I am grateful for his companionship and love over the last several years.

I am grateful for every day I had with him and for all the small lessons he has taught me.

Rest in Peace, my angel. I will miss you terribly.

I'm so sorry for your loss, Natalie . Francis sounds like a very special little guy . He will be in your heart forever, and you in his. Instead of crying now that he's gone, smile and be grateful that you were blessed with him in your life for so many years.

I'm so sorry Natalie, your post made me cry. Francis sounds like he lived a very good life and now he'll live on through these three miracles that, in a way, are his babies as well. Feel better

Natalie, my heart just hurts for you. I don't so much hurt for Francis -- he's at peace, and I'm glad the decision was so clear for you, and not filled with prolonged wondering. But I'm so sorry you're going through this.

I too am so sorry Natalie . Francis' description does sound like he was the perfect angel , may he always be happy at the Rainbow, until you meet again.

Oh my gosh Natalie!
*In tears*
I am so very sorry. Soooo sorry.
I dont know what to say, there are no words that seem sufficient enough, when our 'special' little ones pass and leave us. (Losing ANY Glider is soo hard, losing a 'favorite' for me, is almost unbearable, I still cry about Mya at different times.)
I am so sorry Natalie.
Please know your in my thoughts, and saying a prayer that you be comforted.
Francis knew he was loved unconditionally and tremendously...

Francis knew what he had. He had an angel taking care of him. Now you have an angel taking care of you. You are truly blessed to have had him for as long as you did. Smile and think about the special times you had together and your heart would be on its mend. At least Francis got to meet the little wee ones. I am so sorry about your loss of Francis.

I am glad this forum is here. It was very helpful for me to be able to write this, and to receive well-wishes and support from friends. I'd imagine we all struggle sometimes with others in our lives (those who don't have gliders) not quite understanding how much our fuzzy companions mean to us. It is so wonderful to be able to communicate with those who do understand.

Francis was such a little trooper. I thought we had all of his issues since his fall pretty much under control, but it turned out that there was something else there that we didn't find out about until it was too late. He certainly fought hard for as long as he could.

Natalie, it has taken me this long to be able to tell you how very sorry I am. Still when I read this I cry. But I wanted to let you know you have been in my prayers and heart.

I am so sorry you both had to go through all you did. And I am so glad he was able to see the babies.

I agree with Lucy,he is at peace now and you helped him be there.

We are always here for you.

Natalie: I know all too well the feeling of losing a glider with whom you've had a most special bond. While the hurt over losing Francis will slowly diminish with time, the remembrance of all the special little things you shared together will remain in your heart to forever cherish.

I'm so sorry to hear this-it's always so hard. And even when it's clear, the decision to help at the end isn't an easy one. He'll wait for you at the Bridge, and one day you'll remember him and smile. Hugs to you
