I am posting this here at the request of the owner, Kiora's Mom. She is too heartbroken to even talk about it.

The night before Easter, Kiora died. She was a great little glider with a lot of spunk. Many of you will remember Kiora. She would get loose in the car from time to time and always like to explore. She got herself in trouble on more than one occasion. Kiora had several health problems that brought her to the vets office many times over the past few months. None of the reasons were due to the owner's lack of care. Jenn(Kiora's Mom) is the most diligent glider caregiver I have ever come across. She never hestitated to spend her hard earned money when Kiora's health was in question. Many times the visits to the vet were not even necessary, but Jenn is the type of mom that believes in the motto, "Better safe than sorry." You could not find a more loving mom! She even would get second opinions from another vet if the first vet did not give her a satisfactory answer.

Kiora had some issues recently with diarrhea and then it would clear for no reason. Kiora kept weird sleeping schedules from time to time. About three weeks ago, Jenn had to take Kiora to the emergency vet because Kiora became extremely lethargic. She required an overnight stay that I believe lasted two days. It was give and take. Kiora was a fighter and pulled through. Jenn nursed her back to health. She made a full recovery!

Everything was going great until last night. Kiora was acting a little off but nothing to be alarmed about. Jenn went out and when she returned, Kiora was lying dead in the bottom of her cage. I can not imagine what it was like for Jenn to discover Kiora. She was mortified!

I am truly saddened by this and my sympathies go out to Jenn on the loss of Kiora. I can not even write about how I feel personally right now because this has me shaken as well. I will pull myself together and post my feelings later. For now, I can only relate this story to you.

I ask that you keep Jenn in your prayers. She would really appreciate that. I am speaking from first hand experience, You could not find a better glider owner and valued member of this forum. I hope anyone who reads this to encourage Jenn to get another glider when the time is right. She may not need them as much as they need an owner like her.

Jenn is thinking about having a necropsy done, please honor her wishes by not asking her any questions at this time. She is devastated and can not talk or write about Kiora without crying. I would ask that you just post or e-mail your heartfelt sympathies and encouragement and avoid asking any questions until a much later date.

Jenn, my heart goes out to you. I will keep you in my prayers! God Bless You! Love ya!

John (Rocky & Adrienne)

Words seem puny & inadequate at a time like this. Nothing we say or do can help make it better. All we can do is to let Jenn know that we are with her & support her in this time of sorrow.

Am just so very sorry that you have to go through this, Jenn. From what I have read on this forum, you were/are an excellent glider Mom & have nothing to berate yourself for because you did all you could to give Kiora a loving home & I am sure that Kiora knew that she was loved.

Perhaps you will again, sometime in the future, give another the chance at having a good life.

I'm so sorry -- I know you cared for Kiora with tenderness and love. What I've experienced lately with a sick glider makes me realize that they pick up on that love loud and clear. It also seems that you did everything in your power to help her.

It's little comfort, I know, but you are in our thoughts and prayers.

I too have kept up with this little gliders illness.

Jenn, you have been a great glider Mom. Your little girl loved you very much. May time heal your broken heart.

Jenn--Now that I have gotten a handle on my emotions and am thinking clearly, I will respond to my own post. I am very sad about the passing of Kiora. Any words I can give will not bring that much comfort--it will take time to heal this wound. I only pray that God will give you peace of mind during this time. I know you are busy at college with your studies and you need to think clearly now. Kiora is at rest and will no longer have to suffer ever again. You absolutely prolonged her life with your loving care! If it were not for you, she would not have made it as long as she did. You were a fantastic mommy to this glider. I have expressed my sympathies in an e-mail to you but I do not think enough can be said in a situation like this. It is also comforting to know that other people cared for Kiora as well. Misery loves company and you have plenty of company here at GC. Take your time to mourn your loss. Just remember that there are many people at his forum pulling for you and that our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I'm so very sorry for your loss. I recently lost my flying squirrel TJ to some friends who didn't close the cage. He got loose and is most likely a free squirrel now. I've lost many pets, and I know how hard it is. If I were there I would give you a big hug and let you have my big shoulder to cry on. No amount of words will ever make losing a very loved pet any easier, but we can be there to help you through it all. :-) At least she knew she was loved, and you will see her again when you cross to the other side.

Jenn,

Heartfelt tears of sadness at the loss of your beloved Kiora.

Kiora is an now and will never know pain again. She will be waiting for you when it is your turn to leave this mortal realm, and until then, she will be watching over you.

I offer my deepest Sympathy! As I saw this post I was shocked and sadden by seeing it. I felt, that somehow I knew a little bit about Kiora. Everyone here knows how much you truely love her. I too know that feeling. One day, you leave to go somewhere, and then... Oh great, now I am starting to cry. You will be in my prayers and try to focus on all the good times you have had together, please?

Jenn,

I am soo sorry. This post is soo shocking as I know how happy you were when Kiora had seemed to recover. I also know that you thought of Kiora as your "kid" and were willing to go above and beyond for her happiness (I mean, you've got a cage built into your closet ). I am postive that she appreciated every second of that and maybe someday you can let another lucky glider into your life. It seems that since her death was so sudden that she didn't suffer. Try to let the fact that her life, although short, was full of more love than some gliders ever have, comfort you. All gliders should be so lucky, whether they live a few months or 15 years! I know a lot about loss, feel free to IM me if you need to talk.

Jenn, ohhh, this is always the hard part when I don't know what to say. I have followed your posts and you are a great mommy. Take some comfort that you always did the best of your ability with Kiora, and she knew that. If you need to vent, I am always around somewhere, free feel to email me.

Such a loss is truely a tragedy, May our Lord have great mercy upon you. I know how hard a loss can be, I also want to say if (when) you are ready I would be honored for the "Gllider Railroad" to transport my little Aries to you, I know if you accepted him, he would be one lucky glider that would recieve allot of love and care!

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for their replies. It really did help me reading all of these posts. I am doing a lot better now. It just sucks sometimes because a couple of times I have been out and then I will naturally just say, " I have to go feed and play with Kiora," and then I stop myself in the middle of the sentence and realize that she's not here. Hopefully, she did enjoy her short life that she had. Thanks again for the replies.

Jennifer, sometimes the best tribute to a relationship is to try again -- I hope you'll consider becoming a glider mom once again when it's time.
