Say I got a female or male and I decided to, along the road to get another sugar glider of the opposite sex? How hard is it to get the two to bond to each other? 'Cause I want to get one, and then another one later on. 'Cause I don't have the $300 to get a joey pair right now. So please anyone help me out.

I got my female glider first and I got the male later and I put them in two cages beside each other for a couple days and when I put them together in the cage they got along great right away. But it might not be as easy with other gliders.

Yes it can be done. But I suggest you wait until you have the money for two. Gliders are very social as you have probably read, they really need glider to glider contact. It will be a smoother transition for a glider if they had a glider buddy to hug and play with at night. Plus what if you do get one, you don't know when you might be able to purchase your next, If you wait till it is mature you'll have to get one around the same age and that not easy, mostly because breeders usually do not have older gliders for sale, just joeys, and you cannot put an adult and a joey together. If they fight, which could happen, the joey will lose. Please get both at the same time you and your gliders will be happy that you made that decision.

Do you have your glider yet or are you still looking? Do you have your supplies for your glider yet?

I don't have a glider yet, I am still looking. But, yes I do have all my supplies. I have LOTS of pouches on the way, wodent wheel, etc.

Thats a great sign! If you have a wodent wheel coming, did you get a nail-o-matic for your suggies. At fist I didn't have it but I got fed up with being scratched up all the time. A friend of mind asked me if I was trying to kill myself with all the glider nail marks I had. This nail-o-matic has really saved my skin. Just a tip for a future glider parent.

Ya, I'm going to try and get one real soon. 'Cause my mom used to have a pair and she had TONS of scratches on her. So, she got a nail-o-matic. It was great!

I had Emmit for almost a year and a half before I got Clara. I got Clara as a joey in July. They still don't get along. Their cages are side by side and they are very curious about each other, but Emmit is very aggressive toward her so I haven't put them together yet. I have gotten some advice about waiting until Clara is mature and then trying again, but I have been advised that they may never like each other. So, my advice is that you wait until you have enough money for two. It will be hard to wait, but it will probably be easier in the long run.

(By the way, not all people have this problem, but this was my experience. Good luck in whatever you choose to do.)

The advice about getting two is good advice. It can be hard to introduce a second. Gliders are territorial animals. Just think about what you would do if you did get one now and one later and they didn't ever bond. Then you would have to divide your time between the two and search for pairs for the both of them. What a horrible situation that would be. However, if you choose to get one now and the other later, remember that the opposite sex usually goes together better. And seeing as how the greatest problem (beyond compatibility) is that a young female simply cannot be put with an older male because he may hurt her trying to breed, I would get a female first. Good luck and let us know how all goes.

Here is a link that can help you. It explains some of the pros and cons of getting a glider and then introducing one later. Or actually, the cons.

http://www.sugar-gliders.com/glidervet-34.htm

You will need to scroll down to the article titled "Get One Now, Get One Later."

I agree with staplesmom , it would be better for you to get two. You should wait until you can afford both of the sugar gliders, because what if your single sugarbaby got sick? Would you have enough money to pay the vet bill? It's probably better to wait until you can provide for your babies financially. That is what I have been doing.

However if you are going to get one and another later, here is another article detailing how to go about introducing your gliders!

Two at the same time is most definitely easier to work with. I was lucky with mine. I got Emma and then a few months later I rescued Romeo. Romeo is older than Emma by about 6months but they got along pretty quickly. Then a couple years later when I had Romeo fixed and had raised two of Emma's babies myself (she wouldn't let them nurse after they came oop) I had two cages one for the babies and one for Emma and Romeo. When the babies were 3months old I rescued Skittles who was 6monts old. I tried for two months to get skittles and the babies to get along and they just wanted to fight all the time. So I tried with Emma and Romeo and in a week they had accepted skittles and I was able to put her in the cage with them.
You never know what is going to work out so if I were you I wouldn't want to take the chance. Patience is a virtue! hehe
Anyway, good luck with your new glider(s) when you get them.
Jennifer
