Relax, it's normal with these meds. It may firm up in a few days, or stay on the soft side until treatment is done. Make sure and offer plenty of liquids, and a few (no more than 3 or 4 individual flakes in 24 hours!) flakes of REGULAR quaker oats-not the instant or quick kind-to firm things up, or some canned pumpkin if yours will eat that. It usually firms up to a degree within a few days. The oatmeal will help absorb excess water in the intestinal tract-too much can cause constipation or blockage, so give it time to work and don't go overboard. A little cheese (no more than 1/8 inch cube or less) with the oatmeal can also help.

It affects some gliders systems more than others-Riker's first time was all out diarrhea. Sometimes it's just very soft, and with other's it's hardly noticeable, and it's usually worst the first time a glider is on it. You can also give yogurt to help replenish the gut flora in between doses.

I know it's been answered already, but whenever my glider was on baytril my vet also gave me bacteria gel. He explained when sugar gliders take antibiotics orally, they sterilize their stomaches and they need to get bacteria back in their system. You can give your glider a (non) soy based yogurt to help with that.

Any yogurt is fine as long as it contains live cultures (and no artificial sweeteners!). Soy isn't recommended because of the aflatoxin risk-so I wouldn't use that unless it was a last resort. The flora will come back naturally, and be killed off again by the antibiotics with every dose (both good and bad bacteria-antibiotics don't discriminate), yogurt, or benebac, only accellerates the regrowth in between. It's that lack of gut flora that triggers the loose stools in the first place.

So, I thought i've read before somewhere that gliders can have extremely small doses of Probios to help with their gut flora.. Is this true? Or did I happen upon bad info?

That's what the yogurt is for. In some areas, the items like benebac (probiotics) are hard to come by, but yogurt has the same bacteria in it. In fact, there are new probiotic yogurts, like danactive, that can be used as well.

Yeah, I just wondered if Probios would be a more potent and/or safe alternative to yogurt just in case there wasnt any on hand, or a more potent solution was preferred. My uncle is a dairy farmer, and Probios is in abundant accessible supply to me, so I was just wondering.

They're fine-just be very careful not to overdo-gliders really are very small and don't take much for their body weight/mass. I wouldn't say they're safer, but you do know they're getting what they need without a doubt.
