there is only one albino that I have ever heard of in the glider community. I would have to caution you to view the parents actually nursing this *albino het* before purchasing. I may be way off here and am only speaking from my own experience and knowledge, maybe others will know more but IMO I would advise against this purchase.

Where would you purchase it from if you dont mind me asking?

Well now, can you tell us....who is selling an albino het?

Let's see, Mike Sandridge has an ablino het, Sheila has an albino and two hets and then there is Thurber who has a het for albino and one other person I know of who has an albino male. And all of these albinos or albino hets came from one person...so all are related due to being offspring produced by one pair of Albino Hets which have not produced any offspring for a year or so.

I hope you know the person you are going to purchase from well. If not...I would be hesitant to purchase a het from someone who is not known in the glider community as a reputable breeder.

Asking price for an Albino 100% Het is $1500. Possible Albino Het would be around $1000.

KristopherDeRose,

I think that it's awesome that you have the chance to get one! Someday I would like to get another color to add to my glider family. Congratulations! Make sure you post pictures.

P.S. Sorry I haven't posted pics of the cage, I'll try to get it done tomorrow.

I personally wouldn't buy it... Het for albino's have produced much as of yet, so there's no guarentee you'll get anything. Leucistic hets have thrown color. When paired with other hets they've produced leucistics, when paired with WFB's, they have produced platiums and beautifully colored WF's.

Leyna I think what you're referring to is a glider carrying a dilute gene, not a leucistic gene. A dilute gene paired with another dilute gene will actually produce a black eyed white glider, so it's very hard to tell the difference. However, leucistic would not be able to produce blended colors like that.

Actually....... in some species (birds) it seems that leucistic doubles as a dilute gene. So, I guess it could be the same way in gliders.

The person who produced the Albinos from two hets posted as Wherezat. He has not posted much on the board for the past year.

Kris, I wouldn't pair a leucistic het with an albino het, they are totally unrelated variations. Leucistic is an actual color variation, where albinos missing a gene that causes color. By breeding the two together you most like won't get anything.

Mage, Sheila's glider Haley was produced by a leucistic het female and WFB male. Also, I can't remember who, but recently there was a post about a peach colored WFB joey. That was also the result of a WFB/leu het breeding...

I'm not sure i have to wait till the 15th and then he might have a leucistic het female because this lady said she wants to put a deposite on it but it has been like a week and a half so i might be getting leucistic hets

Ok
Leyna, I think what Mage is saying is that you can't get this with the BEW, but with the het. In your post, you did not specify that it was a het with the WFB, only you said Leucistic.

Kris, you will get offspring from this particular paring that will be a possible het for Leucistic and a possible het for Albino, but never a glider with color.

It is best to keep Leucistic with Leucistic and Albino with Albino genes. One of the reason no one has been able to duplicate the Albino is because there is only one blood line out there. You have to have time and patience to line breed if there is only one line. Right now I have one 100% het for Albino, three possible hets for albino, and one albino that is pregnant due out in a few weeks with two offspring which will be 100%. I will take the possible het adult female and breed it with the 100% male. This is a nephew to Aunt breeding. I will take Lil Bear's offspring who is a month old now and breed it to the possible het male that is Princess's brother. This is really farfetched but would be a great breeding because she would be breeding to a great uncle. There is only a 50% chance that she carries the gene, so I am hoping. She is a very pretty colored glider and her name is Snowflake. I gave up on Albino cause i had Princess for 2 years before she even mated the first time. She is now breeding back to back and her son bred at 5 months. I am excited because perhaps with this other baby that is purchased by another person, we might be able to get something going and bring the albino line back. After these brothers and sisters die out, I don't think there will be any more except for ones pulled in from the wild and there are not too many of those.

Oh, your right Sheila. Sorry Mage, that was a type-o on my part...

Sheila, I just wanted to tell you that Snowflake is beautiful. She has such a lovely light colored face...

Thank you Leyna. I don't know if the light color is due to her mother being a buttercreme or if she will end up being a het for albino.

You need to start producing some albino's girl! I think the set up you hafe right now will work... They are so beautiful. In my opinion, they are prettier than the leucistics... It's all about the eyes.

Well I'm getting her and I dont have anything to breed her with I have a chance to buy her uncle but I'm not sure if that is to close and he is only a possible. But I'm not sure if she is a ture albino het she is from sandman sugar gliders and her dad is the albino and his name is Gallileo and her mom is a 100% het and her name is Scaramouche. Does anyone know that he had a albino because it said that his female albino died so he could no offer a list.

Gallileo is an albino... He's a very pretty boy to. I wasn't aware that Mike owned him though, but I rarely pay that close of attention to things like that. I wouldn't recommend breeding the uncle to her for a few reasons, one of them being that she is most likely already inbreed. You've been reading the inbreeding/line breeding post right? Well, there's only 1 line of albinos. You will have to inbreed, but most like Gallileo was breed to a close relative to produce the female you are being offered. If you breed her to another closely related male, you make run the risk of defects...
