Just wanted to share this with you all.
Please be very careful of the toys you give your gliders to play with. Make sure they are "glider safe"..especially stuffed toys. Never give them anything that has acryllic fibers in it.
I was at the pet store one day and saw the cutest little stuffed toy with dangling rope legs that I knew my Murphy and Maynard would just love. I was just trying to be a good mommy and give them a Christmas present..never thinking it could harm them. Also thinking, its a pet store..they wouldnt sell anything dangerous to pets.
My gliders spend alot of time in the tree branches playing with their toys,feathers.etc. Anyway,it was the night before my Florida trip and I had a friend coming by every day to feed them and let them out. Not really knowing alot about the gliders, he didnt know there was anything wrong. Besides the fact they didnt want to come out and play..he thought that was normal. A week later, I come home and find my babies near death. They had a horrendous mouth infection, bloody noses and sores on their paws. Maynard had lost alot of weight..thank goodness he was a little chubby to begin with and Murphy didnt have it quite as bad but bad enough. I rushed them to the vet and he gave them anti biotics which saved their lives. Another day or two I would have come home to dead gliders for sure. So please be careful on what you give your babies to play with. Read the labels carefully.

how sad. i'm so glad you caught them in time for their sake, yours and that of your friend. imagine being left to care for animals and them dying on you and you don't know why. I had thought about giving Honey some toys like that, and now i know what not to give her. Thank you so much for sharing and keeping other Suggies out of that kind of pain!

Now I stick to rope and feather toys, bells, <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" /> ladders, pvc tubes...and toys made especially for gliders. No more stuffed ANYTHINGS! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />
