I was going to get some rope to hang in various places and help add support to some shelves but didn't know what kind to get. There was nylon, polyester, manila, Polypropylene, and Sisal. All these different kinds came in different sizes too. I didn't want to get anything that could be harmful or they might get their claws stuck in. Any suggestions??

I use fleece rope, but I'm not sure about the ones you listed.

Could you get leather straps. I use that to hang the coconut swing and it works great...plus they dont chew and break it.

I dont know if that would be good enough for what you want though.

I don't really need anything that will hold alot of weight. Just something to add a little support shelves inside the cage, plus I figure they might like climbing on it.
Where do you get fleece rope? I'm not sure where I could get leather straps either...

You might see if you can find a Tandy leather shop local to you or possibly online. Basically for ropes, you want a tightly braided rope that they can't get their toe nails in or their toes. Fleece ropes are items some vendors here make.

What about the kinds of rope found on a lot of bird toys? I've found a couple things that I think gliders would like in the bird section (rope ladders, etc). Do you think they would be acceptable?

For the fleece ropes I just buy the material and cut it to the length/width I want.

I'm new to gliders, but I know rope <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />
I'd avoid the sisal or hemp because they will retain odor like you wouldn't believe.
Poly. ropes are generally quite stiff and unpleasant to the touch.
I prefer braided dacron or nylon. They're soft yet easily washable.

Just my $.02

Yes, braided dacron and nylon, best found in marine supply stores or the boat department at Wally World. I would hesitate to use the twisted type. The braided is very tight, almost smooth.

I would have to agree with reiver1 on that one. Nylon or dacron rope is very durable and washable. Also, your little guys shouldn't try to chew it up as easily.

I purchased some nylon rope to secure the shelves with but it's kind of small (only 3/16") I checked in the fabric department for fleece to make some hanging "things" for them to climb on, but I didn't know there were so many different kinds of fleece!!! Any help on what kind of fleece to use or will any of it do?
