I have being some research for cage materials, as I want to build my own suggie cage. The home depot and ace hardware stores around my area do not carry j or c clips so I have been looking for other materials I could use instead. My main question is what material are J-clips? I am thinking stainless steel, but I am not sure. Any answers or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hi, I'm not sure what type of material J-clips are made from, but I do know that instead of J-clips you could also use plastic cable ties. Hope this helps! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

What would a J clip be used for? For our cage, to hold the meatal "caging", we are using staples, like they use when framing houses. Im not sure if the J clips do the same thing, but i thought it might help, i dont know lol

J clips or c clips nor any of the cage materials should be galvanized metal. (including the wire itself) Urinary tract infections can be caused by galvanized metal. Also if you use any wood, make sure you shallac it with 4-5 coats, allowing to dry 24 hours and a light sanding between coats to seal the wood.

[:"blue"] J-Clips and C-Clips(more properly known as Pen Rings) are available both in stainless steel and galvanized steel. J-Clips are also available in aluminum. I have used galvanized J-Clips for a number of years without any ill effects; but because of the concern about UTIs, I will use SS J-Clips in any future cages. SS J-clips are a couple of dollars more expensive than the galvanized ones; but not enough to be a big deal. Same applies to pen rings. I would advise against aluminum J-Clips. When you clinch them up they leave some sharp edges and slivers of metal that may cause problems.
Personally, I don't like cable ties; but have to admit they are probably the cheapest solution if you are only building a single cage and they are the easiest connector to work with. J-Clips and pen rings take some effort to remove if you get one in the wrong place!! Pay attention to the color of the cable ties that you buy. White ties used with black coated wire looks [censored] as do black ties used with white coated wire. [/]

Both "J-clips" and "C-clips" can usually be found at your local auto parts store. I happen to work for a dealership and we have drawers full of them.

J and C clips are usually used in some of the attachments for window regulators and things of that nature. Then again since we are using generic names for clips we could both be talking about different types of clips. lol
