Hi,
I have two joeys that are about 5 weeks oop...a little boy and a little girl. The girl is already sold and the people who are taking her want to come over next sunday (the joeys will be 6 weeks oop) and see her.
I've had problems with my female eating the joeys in the past but they were eaten within the first week oop. Is this to early to let her see her? are their still risks of them being refected? ans oh my other question was...can I transfer colds to my sugar glider? I have the flue, a sinus infection, tonselitus, and strep throat right now
thanks for any help

At 6 weeks oop, my joeys spend several hours with me away from mom and dad and I have never had a problem. Just yesterday some friends came over and saw all my cages and asked where my birds were. I had to explain I didn't have birds, I have gliders. That was followed by the typical "what's a glider?" So I showed them my colony, including Mr. Nickolas just 3 weeks oop. I let them hold him and explained about gliders. She is in love now. I wouldn't be surprised if they get back with me asking for Nickolas. He was such a gentleman yesterday. My gliders have always been good parents so I didn't worry with him being so young but...If I had problems in the past, I wouldn't have let them hold him.
Anyway, at 6 weeks, it should be fine and if they are going to be taking this little joey, the more time they spend with her the better. (IMO) It will let her start getting used to them and make the transition easier for her.

Judge not until you have walked in their shoes and lived their lives. What you see online is only part of the story.

I will usually let people hold them as early as 2 weeks oop. I have never had a problem either.

And no they can not get your sickness. You should be fine.....get better though

I would be a little wary about handling your gliders since you have a bacterial infection (strep/tonsilitis) vs. a viral (cold/flu). Be sure to wash your hands well before handling your gliders and their food. Other than that, all should be well. Also, 6 weeks OOP is plenty old for new people to be handling the joeys. If you are worried about it, have the parents out to so they can see whats going on

Tell them to bring over a smelly shirt that they can leave with you, so the baby can get used to the smell.

Thanks for all the help guys. The little boy is so sweet, just like his dad but the girl is a crabber....exact same as the mom if you breath wrong she'll tell you where to go lol.
For putting a cloth with their scent on it in the cage should I put that in the sleeping pouch they've always had the joeys in or in one of the other pouches in the cage? a new scent in the cage wont make the parents angry or nervous?
thanks for the help
geeze staying home from work is boring..you can only watch so many movies in a day

In my opinion, 6 weeks is old enough for one or two adult owners to handle the joeys. I wouldn't let a bunch of folks handle them, tho...just the new owner (not their children). I think you'll be okay as long as bunches of folks aren't messing with them. I carry my 6 week old joeys on outings (2-4 hours sometimes). They do fine. I also let new owners visit beginning around week 6, and let one person handle the joey. If it's an adult couple, I'll let both handle the joey, but no kids. That's just my policy (altho I won't let go of my joeys so it's been awhile since I've had a new owner).

I think as long as the smelly shirt is in the cage with the gliders, it won't matter where it is. The new owners will take the shirt home with the glider, giving a known scent to a new cage. This will lessen the stress of leaving parents, too.
