I'm very excited to say that body parts are constantly popping out of Tink's pouch... so I'm expecting babies oop before the end of the week. But i was curious as to how much i can handle them. I know i really shouldnt start handling them for atleast 10 days, and their eyes should be open and what not... but does that mean just not handle my gliders at all? Both my male and female gliders are constantly on me, either in my shirt or in a pouch around my neck.. even now with body parts hanging out : ) so, for the first couple of weeks oop should i just leave my gliders in their cage? or can i take them out? Tink's really comfortable with me, as we speak shes in my top cleaning one.. an entire rear end is out. I know the babies will still be nursing a lot, so should i just not handle my mother at all unless shes out and about in the cage? And what about Martini, can i still take him around with me? A little advice would be appreciated : ) thanks.

I handle and many other breeders handle from day 1 oop. You can still play with your gliders just not as extensive as before. Pay attention to your male as he will need it.

I have always handled my joeys from day one oop, simply because I can't resist. However, only for a minute or two for the first two weeks or so. Then slowly start increasing the time. How your parents act will help you determine how to treat them. With mine, one parent will stay in the pouch/nest with the joey while the other will eat and exercize. Rarely are both ever away from the joey at the same time until the joeys are 2-3 weeks oop. This is a great time to babysit the joey.

Thanks, a local pet store that specializes in exotic pets, and quite frequently has gliders in told me to wait 10 days. but i just don't think i can manage that. one baby is now oop, and i can handle it, and mom and dad are ok with it, and i can handle dad. Tink however, i can handle... but she wont actually settle down in my shirt like she usually does.. she seems kinda wired when i get her out.
another question... it's about 70 degrees in my room, is that warm enough?

I also hold my joeys at 1 -3 days oop and have no problem with my glider parents . As for the room temp it is fine but when I know that I have joeys in the pouch I try to keep the room temp at 75 -80. The babies can catch a cold easily because they have a very fine layer of fur whih is not enough to help keep them warm.

Yeah, I live in florida.. and find 70 to be cold myself, lol. My parents seem to be responding just fine to my holding the baby. I think I'm going to get a space heater for my room.
