my lil joey is about 10 days OOP he was rejected and he eats better when he eats by himself.... for about 2 days since his eyes have been open when its feeding time i put about .05 ml of his food in the lid of a baby food jar and he licks it up and makes alot less of a mess then when i handfeed him.... cause when i hand feed he looks for a nipple to suck on n pushes his face on my hand n fingers n its hard to feed him... this way he feeds himself and i dont have to wean him from the synringe (sp?).... n he usually goes to the bathroom while hes eating... but i still make sure to stimulate him w/a wet q-tip... n i check his tummy n its full once the milk is gone from the lid.... n he eats it soon after i put it n there... is this safe?? i dont think he cant drowned in there cuz its such a small amount....

Wow, that is a tough one. I haven't every hand raised joeys that young... I would think that if you are keeping a CLOSE watch on him, it would be OK (since he is eating better that way), but I'm not sure. Someone else will come along that knows more about hand feeding younger joeys...

Good Luck thumb

As long as he is eating this is fine. Acatually there are alot of people who use the palm of their hands to hand feed a joey, and they lap it up. Try putting the fomula in the palm of your hand. If he doesn't take it then go back to the lid. But if he is eating then it is fine

.05 ml or .5? .05 isn't hardly a drop.

My little girl is now 1 month oop and I have been hand raising her since sshe was 2 days oop when momma rejected her! Since she was 12 days oop she has eaten on her own the EXACT same way as your little one!

She eats out of a lid EVERYDAY numerous times a day and I just put her down on a towel with the lid in front of her and she doeas the rest! She's not interested in eating from my finger, hand, nipple/bottle, or my palm! It's the ONLY way she'll eat! She also stimulates her self and goes to the bathroom everytime after she eats! Then she curls up in a ball and falls fast asleep and that's how I know for sure that she is done!

I would still suggest keeping an eye on your little one because mine has been known to fall asleep on her cheek, in her dish! HAHA It's cute but there is a chance that she could ingest something so I always keep a close eye!

Congrats on the little runt! I love mine to death!

Your lucky he is eating so soon but keep an eye on his hydration.

With Serge and Z'or I had to force feed them and made a couple of trips to the vet to have them re hydrated. Saline in a glider membrane helped get them through weaning and learning how to find food and water as they were born blind
