I just got a glider from a friend and I am trying to bond with it. So I get some applesauce put it on my finger and she licks it all up no problem and seems to love it. Then all of a sudden Lucy starts biting my finger (i think looking for more food) and it hurts really bad. I dont know what to do, most people say "oh just take it they will grow out of it, but seriously a drop of blood came out of my finger when she bit me. Please help.

It's imperative to redip your finger long before the treat is gone. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> She just hasn't figured that out yet is all.

sounds like Lucy is looking for more applesauce in your finger! Gliders in the wild bite into tree bark to get to the sap. Lucy's behavior actually sounds very normal. She is just following instict. Follow Karin's advice and keep that finger covered in sauce! :-)

Yep, you have to keep dipping. Once it is gone, or getting a little thin on the ol' finger, they will bite right in at first when trying to bond. My little guy has finally stopped and when the treat is gone he just scampers up my arm, much better than getting bitten to death, lol. Just takes time, and yes, if they do bite, you have to take it, as hard as it is. My hands have been pretty bit up the past couple weeks I have had Xander, but I think they'll get better now, hahaha. Tonight was actually a huge night, I was holding him and keeping him cupped in my hands and everything, no crabbing or biting. Played with him for over an hour. He even comes out on his own now. He was completely wild when I got him 3 weeks ago, never had any human contact, just the replacement of his water and food bowls. So patience and consistancy is the key, along with pain, hahahaha. Good luck!

I haven't done the 'licky' thing and my 3 haven't bitten ever. I don't believe in the 'licky' thing because I believe it entertains the biting idea. This is just my opinion and experience. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yelclap.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/heartpump.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/read.gif" alt="" />
