Troy,
Very nice indeed. The girls are going to love it and you also for building them a 'bigger is better' custom home. What are the shelving sides held together with? How many shelves are inside? That is so great that their home is ready 5 weeks + in advance. Super great. I love that size and it looks great. I see their 'kitchen' and their stealth wheel. Two thumbs up. sounds like you have it altogether. This is what I like to see when preparing to bring home 'gliders'.You are a wonderful example . Have you chosen their names yet?
The pics are horizontal not vertical. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumb.gif" alt="" />

Thanks for the compliments everyone!! Hazyl for the shelves there are 3 plus the one that the stealth wheel is sitting on. They are all zip tied to the sides. I just used leftover material fromt the cage for the shelves and used a dremel tool and a file to get the sharp edges off. The wheel shelf is made from a utencil *sp?* organizer turned upside down and I cut out one the dividers and used pieces of it to attach the locks.
You really can't see from the pictures but I have a tray thats on wheel that slides out from underneath. I just used rubbermade underbed storage box and cut some off the top so it would slide underneath the cage.
As for names we haven't decided yet but we were thinking about Laverne & Shirly,or Thelma & Louise. If anyone has any suggestions let me know.

That's a really cool cage, I think the ones people make out of the shelving come out very spiffy. Was it difficult to figure out how to put together?

I'm here!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> LOL

That cage is amazing Troy. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumb.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumb.gif" alt="" /> The girlies are just going to love it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/heartpump.gif" alt="" /> I'll have to bring them to the computer tonight so they can see their new cage. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/multi.gif" alt="" />

I like the names Thelma and Louise. You'd have to get them a little toy car they can drive around in though! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dance.gif" alt="" />

I will resize those pics today and get them sent to you. The pics came out so good, they just look so adorable. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cloud9.gif" alt="" />

Talk to you soon

Catherine

Little cowgirl it wasn't too hard to make, just kind of time consuming. I used a hacksaw to cut the pieces to the correct length, then filing down all the sharp edges. And of course lots of zip ties! Some 2x4's and 4 wheels for the rolling frame and 8 coats of polyeurethane.
Southernbell I will get some more pics posted, I have about 10 on my camera now but I just have to resize them.
Catherine there you are!! Well you were the deciding factor, Thelma and Louise it is!! Erin and I can't wait to see the pics!

What would you say you spent money wise on the whole cage, i've looked into making a cage like yours before but i thought the shelving was expensive? Thank you! Oh and it really does look great!

Candice, I probablly spent around $120 for everything I got it all at Menards because they were the cheapest, I think they're only in Central IL though. It is kind of like Lowes or Home Depot.
mia2004, sure i'll put one together for you real quick LOL.

I was going to ask you about the wheels . Great job once again. Looks like it was a hit all the way around. I wonder how a hex shape would look/work. Hint Hint. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/roflmao.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thanx.gif" alt="" />

A hex shape cage, that would be a pain in the butt!! It was enough trouble getting 4 sides to line up. Hazyl i'm getting a headache just thinking about it!! LOL

Well I obviously can't take all the credit for this cage. I got all the ideas from this site! Well except for the rolling wood bottom and the locks.

[:"blue"] I made a round cage one time and I think hex cages would pose similar problems. They look good but are a lot more trouble to build. The sides/walls are easy to construct; but cutting and fitting tops, bottoms and shelves is a real headache and you will have to figure out a way to make a custom litter pan as you will never find one of the correct size and shape. I'm not saying it is impossible, just that for me the extra work isn't justified by the different look....I'm sticking with the "box." [/]

Yep the "box" is the easiest. I don't even want to think about how to trim and get the top and bottom to fit on a round cage!!
