Hi everyone, this is my first time posting about my brand new baby Icharus (2 1/2 months OOP). i have had him for less than a week, and he seems pretty good so far. I don't have a bonding pouch yet (waiting for it to come in the mail), so when should i start carrying him around? as soon as the pouch comes in? He has been crabbing at me some, but that was expected. I have been giving him licky treats, and handing him some of his dinner, and he lets me pet him while he eats. So, what should i do next? he doesn't play very much, i keep trying(with beads, ribbons, and all that) but he just stares at them and doesn't play. I would like some bonding advice!
oh yeah, also is jelly/jam a suitable licky treat, or no?
thanks!

I wouldn't think jelly/jam would be due to all the extra sugar and preservatives in them

as for bonding, try putting something (shirt, piece of fleece) that has a lot of your scent on it in his cage with him. I assume he has some kind of pouch that he sleeps in, and you might want to try resting the pouch in your lap and put 1 hand inside and just hold him in it, not tight, just lay your hand over or under him

as for playing, he's still pretty young and will probably get more playful as he grows and becomes more used to you; my guys didn't play much at all when I first got them!

and, I have to say, great name! hopefully he won't be quite like his namesake!... we don't want any suggies flying too high!

Take it at his pace for the bonding pouch. With mine, I hadn't planned on starting the bonding pouch for at least a week. But the very first day they did ok for short periods of time, and by the 4th day I took them to work with me and they have been happy as can be going places with me ever since. If he seems to not like the pouch, then you might want to take it slower. Also, make sure you have a fleece blankie that smells like you (sleep with it!) and put it in their cage where they sleep, then transfer it to the bonding pouch when they start using it.

Mine haven't responded much to playing with me with toys yet, but they absolutely love their stealth wheel, so I haven't worried too much.

And for a licky treat - try to keep it healthy for them - yogurt is a favorite with mine, also applesauce. Jam and jelly have an awful lot of sugar and very little redeeming nutritional value, so if you do use those I would say make it rare.

I think the most important thing to remember is to watch Icarus in case he glides too close to the sun. That would ruin the bonding process for sure!

thanks for the advice, i actually had him out tonite, and carried him around for a while, he didn't crab at me at all also, he did play with me some this time, we sat on a blanket and he chased aaround this thick ribbon grabbing it and pouncing on it. it was really cute. after we were done playing, i gave him a grape and sent him off to his cage. i gotta sleep sometime too!

hope to get pics of him up here sometime within the next couple weeks...
