Hi Everyone, First of all, let me say I am so glad I found this website. In one week I will be picking up my first sugar gliders. I am going to use a cage that I already had for a chinchilla because it is much bigger than I would be able to get if I bought one specifically for my gliders. However; I do need to make some modifications to it because the space between the bars is too big. I have been trying to find the vinyl coated cage wire I have seen suggested on the cage building websites but I can't find it anywhere. Can anyone tell me where to get it or suggest a suitable substitute? Thank you

I can't remember the web site to order it from - Kuberantz's or something like that. But, you can also buy "hardware cloth" from Home Depot or any hardware store. It's PVC (vinyl) coated wire, get it in 1/2" mesh. There's also the all plastic kind, but it's not as stiff.

A lot of people use klubertanz wire. www.klubertanz.com I don't know if that is what you are looking for but it is great wire for gliders.

[:"blue"] It is generally considered bad to keep gliders in cages made out of galvanized wire. If your chinchilla cage is made out of this material, you should consider "NOT" using it for your new glider. Typically chinchilla cages have dimensions that are not the best for gliders. What size is the cage your are considering?? [/]

Hello! We just experienced that same problem last night! My boyfriend had a big cage that was apparently used for cats a long time ago. So we dragged it out and gave it a good scrub then set off to Home Depot. The only hardware cloth we could find there was silver & we wanted black so we had to come up with something else. In the door section they have rolls of screen material that you can buy- we got the Pet Screen by Phifer and a ton of tiny black zip ties. The material is fairly soft & and flexible but I think its still strong enough to withstand their nails. It's not quite finished yet but so far it looks nice- I'll try to post some pictures in the gallery if I can figure it out. I'm new to this message board still! Hope that helps!

I'm a bit surprised. I thought chins were ground dwellers and I didn't ecpect their cages to be so tall. Vinyl coated steel is an excellent material for a glidercage. sounds like you have the makings of a very nice glider cage!!![/]
