whenever my babies climb on me if they touch my skin i get all red and itchy after like 10 min. i still have marks on me from last night. but when they are all over my boyfriend he's fine. i dont know if its just my skin, or if i am allergic to them in some way. even if i am allergic to my babies i dont care they will still be all over me every night. i'll take the itchy's any day to be with my suggies. so does anyone elese get like this or is it just me???

Nope! The same thing happens to me. My friends make fun of my hands . I believe it's your skin's reaction to the nails breaking the skin and what's on the nails (spit, urine, etc). They won't be as bad if you wash your hands immediately after putting up your gliders (like you should anyway). This makes them less red. It also helps to trim just the very tip of their nails every couple of weeks. Since I've started doing this, I haven't really had any problems. I also wear a sweatshirt during tent/play time or else I'll look like I'm covered in a rash .

The same happens to me when I have prolonged playtime with my gliders. What helps is washing the affected skin with antibacterial soap and then wiping using a cotton ball moistened with rubbing alcohol. Stops the itching/welting fairly quickly for me.

thanks so much guys! i do wash my hands arms and neck when i am done playing, but i never put rubbing alcohol on afterwards. i used to wear a swearshirt everytime when i had my first glider, but thats becasue i was scared of him! i would cover my whole body with clothes, socks over pants just incase he wanted to climb up there and 2 shirts one tucked into my pants. now i'm not scared so ill just play with them in whatever i'm wearing (which usually gets pooped on!) but i guess im gonna have to bundle up again!! (just the sweatshirt not like before....lol)

My hands do this also . I sometimes look like I have a skin problem. Mine stay raised and red for a long time too so it's worse.
Trimming the nails definately does help. Washing right afterwards and NOT putting on a scented moisturizer works best for me.
Good luck. It's well worth the red bumps to play with them.

I know what you mean when you say it looks like you have a skin problem. My aunt was all worried about the "rash" on my hands and I've had one manicure in months because that lady didn't seem so thrilled about touching my "diseased" hands . I explained to her they were scratches from my gliders, but she didn't seem to be consoled much in thinking there were "squirrels" on my hands at some point.

[:"blue"] Jenny:

Lots of people have that same problem, myself included and there are a number of things that have been successfully used to help. Let me first say that it's not uncommon for the "reaction" to decrease in severity as time goes on and you become somewhat immune to the problem.....not true for everyone; but it does happen for many.

Judy has mentioned the anti-bacterial soap and alcohol. Personally, both work well for me and it is an either/or situation. I have never used both together; but maybe that would give an even better result. If you have a really strong reaction, you might try using a vinegar rinse and then a soap wash to remove the vinegar odor. A convenient but somewhat more expensive solution is to use those anti-bacterial handiwipes. I keep a container right by the cage and use them immediately after playing with the little furbuttz!!! For me, they work really well. Not a 100% cure but 90% for sure!!!

Oh yeah.....one last tip. If you handle your gliders, keep your fingers out of your eyes until after you have washed up. I made this mistake once and it was a painful lesson!!![/]

The same thing happens to me & I find that both keeping their nails trimmed & applying a thin layer of Bag Balm to the affected area helps quite a bit!

Yep, you aren't alone here! I have had gliders for nearly four years and I still get blister-like bumps that itch like mad whenever I let my gliders out on me. I just wash my hands when I'm done handling them and I try to wear long sleeve shirts during playtime. Turtlenecks work well too in order to protect your neck and shoulders. I also *try* to keep their nails neat and trim.

I think the itchiness is worth it for my fur-babies. My friends think I'm nuts!

I itched for a while, and after cutting their nails the problem just kind of went away. Maybe you need to cut their nails a little more regularly.
