Is it absolutely necessary to have a drop tray? We currently are using a cat cage that we modified to be glider friendly, but there is just a tiled bottom- no tray. Is that ok? I'm not sure if it will be possible to put another 'floor' above the bottom, we have to vacuum it & just wipe it down while it's set up... it doesn't pull out I should really post some pics of it!

So is it like the food scraps that the gliders don't eat are just laying there for them to pick back up?? Cause if that was the case then i would say you really need to build a floor a couple inches up so that the gliders can't get to the left overs. But if they can't get to them, then there really isn't a need for the drop tray it would just make it easyer to clean with the tray, i would think.

It's not absolutely necessary, but you'll need to vacuum up the droppings and whatnot pretty often (I'd say daily). Make sure whatever you put in the bottom (if you're using anything) is glider friendly- I recommend fleece so their nails don't get caught. That way you can just shake out the fleece or vacuum it and throw it in the wash as needed.

Just be very careful with the vacuum cleaner. Aside from it maybe scaring them if you run it while they're in there, I know someone who vacuumed up her parakeet doing that! She said it had always stayed up at the top of the cage before, but it just all of the sudden got too close one day.

As of now there's just what they spit out on the floor- they're not too messy & they usually eat almost everything. I'll just have to vacuum it often- maybe when they're in the tent. Looks like I have to find a way to build a floor soon!

If you can post some pictures of the cage, we might be able to offer suggestion. Please make sure you are not using pine or wood shavings in the cage (they can cause respitory problems!) I agree, fleece on the bottom would be the easiest to clean. If you have two, you can have one to put in the cage while hand wash it and hang it to dry. My cages have floors but I put fleece "rugs" on the bottom anyway so the gliders have a different surface to walk on.

Judge not until you have walked in their shoes and lived their lives. What you see online is only part of the story.

I'm attaching a picture of the cage before we modified it- it's the easiest to see. I started thinking about it - and if I built a floor the only way to clean the "drop tray" would be to take the entire cage off of its base! Looks like fleece is the way to go unless anyone has a suggestion.

Here is the picture after we finished it. It's a terrible picture but it's the only one I have. You can kind of see the floor but not much else. At least they like how dark it is!
