Yesterday was a horrible day. I had to have one of my three sugar gliders put down due to cancer. It appeared as a scratch wound that maybe one of my cats got ahold of her through the cage. But that was not the case. After about a week the wound grew bigger and bigger. Her skin was pealing off of her. I feel absolutly horrible. She was eating and drinking fine but her skin was falling off and the cancer was protruding out. The vet said that they are very acceptable to this cancer. Although he never said what it was. Does anyone know what it might have been and what might have caused it? I can't find anything on the net about it. Also will my other two adapt to her being gone with out over stressing? Please Help!!!!!!

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. It must have been horrible to see. I have no idea what the cause might have been. Perhaps you can find out the type of cancer from your vet and share with us so to help other glider owners in the future. As for your other two, they may go through a grieving process but they should be ok. The still have each other for companionship. Again, I am so sorry for your loss. Welcome to GC, I am so sorry it is under these circumstances.

That's awful...I couldn't stand seeing any of my pets like that. I'm sure nothing you did could have caused that. I'm sorry about your loss.

Thanks for responses. The vet said they could have done a biopsy bu tit would have taken 10 days to get the results back and I did n't want her to suffer anymore than she already had. But If i find anymore info on it I'll let ya'll know.

Yes there was a male and another female in the cage with her they all have been together for about 5 years. Yes it was on her shoulders and there was raw tissue but it went all the way down into her body cavity. when the ver took cell samples i could see right down her leg and into her body cavity. It was horrible.

I'm so sorry about your loss honey... I always feel so horrible when I hear things like this... I would definetly try to find out what kind of cancer it was from your vet, so that you can get information about it to all of the other glider owners.. so that should they notice the signs .. they will know what is happening... once again, I am so sorry...
