It's taken me 4 days to write this because I've been so upset. I use the BML diet plan and have had to change it around every so often, due to gliders that would not touch it. A couple of months ago I got the idea to use canned chicken instead of babyfood chicken...my gliders wouldn't touch it when it had the babyfood chicken in it. Well, I used 5 oz of the canned chicken, not realizing that babyfood chicken is not pure chicken, and it messed up the calcium/phosphorous ratios so much that I just lost my two most precious babies (Lego & Taffy) to HLP. It hit them so hard and so fast I'm still spinning. I just wanted everyone who uses the BML diet to be careful when altering the ingredients, because it can mean your babies' lives. If your gliders absolutely will not eat BML, get with one of the other long-time breeders on here for an alternate diet. I can't stress enough the importance of their diet. I don't wish this heartache on anyone. These were my two first bonded gliders. I could reach in their pouch and scoop them up, never a crab or bite. They would give me kisses and were very effectionate. My husband (who likes the gliders, but isn't real close to any) even cried. And he's a pretty tough guy. Please, be careful with what you feed your babies. I don't want anyone else to have to go thru this.......
(Judie, sorry it took me so long)

I am so sorry for your loss. Thank you for the warning -- my gliders love the canned chicken, but I use it only as a treat/extra protein source. May your pain be shortened and your memories lengthened.

Ohhhhh, am so so sorry for your loss. This must be a very hard thing for you to deal with, especially since you were just trying to do the right thing.

<img border="0" alt="glider" title="" src="graemlins/littleglider.gif" /> (((((hugs))))) sent your way. <img border="0" alt="heart" title="" src="graemlins/heartpump.gif" />

Thank you ever so much for the heads up. This post may help save the lives of a few other babies. Not everyone who comes here, posts. Some just lurk for the information & you just helped them.

Thank you for your courage. <img border="0" alt="heart" title="" src="graemlins/heartpump.gif" />

OMG..................I am so sorry to hear that you have lost Lego and Taffy. Please do not feel guilty, we are not all degreed dietiticians or or doctors, so please no blame. It is an unfortunate mistake that everyone can learn from, and I thank you for being brave enough to help other glider owners. You have actually saved many gliders now...so try to feel a sense of pride. You will get through your loss with time, but their beautiful memeories will ALWAYS live on.

Rainladen, do you know for sure this is what caused your gliders' deaths? I am looking forward to hearing what the necropsy and panels show.

I am so sorry.

I am so sorry for your loss, I would recommend feeding the briskys diet, its soft dry pellets and my gliders love it, and it is safe to feed to all ages, even young joeys, it beats having to make bml and then having to make baby bml.
I am very sorry for your loss once again.

I am not positive about the cause of death. I will update the board as soon as I get the necropsy report back. It will be a few days.
'Thank you' to everyone. I really appreciate the support. I can't say how much I loved those two and no-one around here can understand how I could get attached to "a couple of flying, devil rats" (yes, that person was hit in an unpleasant place). They were sweet to everyone that showed an interest and even a couple of neighbors cried. They will definately be missed (already are). Man, I miss my babies..........

I know it must have been very hard for you to write this, but I am so glad that you did as this is becoming an issue more and more. I am so sorry for your loss. It is so hard. I lost my very first glider to pneumonia and it was very hard for me because I ignored the signs thinking it was depression from having just lost her first baby. Our thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of need. I am sure that the other beloved gliders met them at the other side of the rainbow bridge.

I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your babies, having recently lost a couple of gliders myself I know the pain you are going through. Hopefully the necropies will shed some light on this dark time for you. My thoughts will be with you.

(((((hugs)))))
