I was wondering where you can find VINYL COATED HARDWARE CLOTH to build a glider cage.

Tracie, I so wish that were true! I have a home depot in town and they do not carry it. However, if your local hardware store does not carry it, they probably can order it for you. Also, Klubertanz really has good prices for what they sell.

We have looked at every hard ware, lumber and building supply store and pet store in our area and no one carries it. Nor did they mention anything about about being able to order it for us. Any other suggestions??

Any Ace Hardware or Home Depot can order for you. Ace charges $8.99 for a 3'x5' roll and Home Depot charges $12.87. Plus, if you order from one of these places, you don't have to pay $20+ in shipping. They may say they can't order it, but press them because I guarantee they can. My Ace said they couldn't order it, but while I was out of town I found an Ace that said they could. I had them print up the order form and took it back to my Ace store and made them get it for me.

Hope this helps,
David

[:"blue"] David: What you have said is good information; but only partially true. We have been through this problem before on GC and there are some H/D stores that will order the stuff and others that just won't. Don't know why.....maybe some regional warehouses don't stock the stuff??

As to ACE, can't comment there; but if you still have the information, it might be helpful to post the stock numbers for the ACE material. [/]

I don't have the stock #'s anymore because I had to give them the paper for them to order it, but I'll try and stop by tommorrow and find out.

Also, if you go to acehardware.com you can order it and have them ship it directly to your local ACE and save on shipping. This way you bypass the whole interaction with the store. The only problem is shipping is still like $14 this way and they charge $10.48 a roll intead of $8.99.

Oh, when you go to ask them to order it, I do remember that the vinyl-coated hardware cloth is in book 5 instead of book 7(where all the other hardware cloth is). And it's under the home and garden section.

I'm going through the same problem right now - I've been to three big hardware/home-improvement stores and none of them have had coated hardware cloth. They have PERFECT stuff in galvanized metal, but I know that's no good. I looked at www.klubertanz.com but couldn't justify the shipping.

I'll see if there's an ACE store around here.

Randy,
Thank you for the information about klubertanz. I went to their website but wasn't sure what I actually needed. If I ask for Richard and tell him what I am using it for then he will be able to tell me what I need?

I've never been anywhere around here that doesn't stock it, but I think Canadians have had a hard time finding it. Apparently others have, too. Odd.

Chanda- Yes, if you call Klubertanz and ask for Richard he will help you figure everything out .

Our Home Depot doesn't carry the coated wire hardware cloth only the all plastic stuff. And it is $15 for a 3x5 roll.

[:"blue"] Chandra:

Richard is Richard Klubertanz if that gives you a clue!! Yes, he will give you all of the help that you need. I have never talked to him, myself; but lots of people here at GC have posted about dealing with him and all say he is very good and very helpful. Although his main business is rabbit cages and supplies, he has helped with a lot of glider cages and is well aware of their needs. [/]

What is the best guage hardware cloth to use? 1/2*1/2 inch or would something like 3/4 inch by 3/4" work. also - is it possible to get larger pieces of this and what is the best way to attach it together? I know I am thinking large cage... and PVC piping.. not wood, so I need some way to make the seams hold together, as well as to attach the cloth to the planned doors. I do have a plan in mind to make hinges for the doors. still needs a lot more planning and work before we buy the supplies, but I can see making a cage to fit our space and size decisions no matter what they are without being overly expensive.

Klubertanz is a good place to get the pvc coated wire for building cages. Klubertanz is located only a few hours from me and I have been there at least twice. One time I brought my most bonded glider with me and showed Richard my Bullet. Richard understood why we needed the 1/2" by 1" pvc coated wire, due to the gliders' small size. When you call there to order the wire, ask for Richard, as he has alot of experience in what we GC members need. He is very helpful and patient. As for the shipping charges, well, it may be a little high, but in the long run, it will pay for itself. I would definitely recommend the Klubertanz wire over the vinyl hardware cloth. If using the Klubertanz wire, 16 gauge wire is the one to use. I am not sure what gauge the Home Depot vinyl hardware cloth comes in, though, but it is not 16 gauge.
