I need help. I can't get a hold of my exotic vets (any of the three) and i don't know what to do. iggy is sick for the first time. here are the symptoms: lethargy, very low body temp, excessive urination (all over himself), panting breathing, and his temperment is varied: either very frightened and attacking (lots of crabbing) or cuddling up and wanting to be held (totally out of character, this male is VERY independent and hates to be held). i have two gliders kept in seperate cages, both have had the same diet, same environment, everything i cna think of. they get organic fruits and veggies, protien (about 30% of their daily food intake) lots of water and gliderade. i don't know what is up or what to do! help!

Your little one needs vet care now. Get the phone book out and call every vet in it. A vet who is willing to try is better than no vet at all. vet will need to sub-q your glider with fluids to fight off dehydration. Make sure he sends a few needles home with fluid for you to admin because this is the weekend. vet then needs to do a UA to make sure it is not a urinary tract infection and then from there a direct fecal with a cytology to determine if the glider has a parasitic or bacterial problem. If you need the phone number of knowledgable vet to link a new vet with....post to this thread and we can give you a vet's number to consult with over the phone. In the meantime...put your glider inside a bonding pouch and put him down your shirt. The body heat will raise his temp which is low probably due to being dehydrated and ill.

972-239-1309 Preston Road Animal Hospital in Dallas. They're very good and do phone consults. Ask for Dr. Sue and if she's not in, any Dr. there can help. Suggest you have your vet call them for in-depth info if possible.

A knowledgable vet will consult with another vet over the phone. This is done to compare notes as to the findings of the tests and also to help with meds and their ratios. Have you located a vet who is willing to help your glider today?

There is a vet on just about every street corner out there. Unfortunately all I have is the yellow pages for North East Phoenix. Start calling around and then use the consult # Charlee gave you. I used Sue for a consult and she was wonderful. Good luck and you are in my prayers

Here is a link to a glider experienced vet in North Phoenix. She comes well recommended. I hope you're doing okay. North Phoenix Vet

Iggy didn't make it. I got to a vet in north phoenix, and apparently iggy's infancy malnutrition (he was a rescue) finally caught up with him. his weak little kidneys just gave out. Bianca keeps looking for him and seems a little sad, but physically she couldn't be doing better, so at least that is good. thanks for the help everyone.

I am so sorry Angie . Give Bianca extra hugs and kisses for a while, so she doesn't get depressed without her buddy.

Angie, my heart is breaking for you! I lost Wendy Darling (a rescued sweetheart) 6 months ago from a severe kidney infection---her symptoms were IDENTICAL to Iggy's! The post mortem my vet did showed she had severe absesses! I just found the slip from the Emergency Clinic I took her to the night before she died...kinda wished I didn't....her diagnosis was "severe dehydration" as a result of "incorrect diet". She loaded her full of fluid, gave me a " diet sheet" & sent us home!!(I still get so ANGRY that the vet didn't even talk to me: she just ASSUMED her problem was because of something I didn't do!! And the most irksome is that SHE owns gliders herself!!) All you can do is give Bianca lots of hugs & enjoy every minute you have with her.
