I've been searching the whole of the net for a second cage for my lilins. I WAS looking for a small cage that could double as a travel cage for my new edition. But then I ran into this cage on ebay . . . .

This cage is HUGE! It is a flight cage . . . the following is the item description and I'll post a picture of it as well.

</font><blockquote><font class="small">Quote:</font><hr />
Designed for Parakeet or Cockatiel.
Size: 45"W x 18 1/2"D x 36"H
Bar Spacing: 3/8"
All of the materials are made from a safe non-toxic material. (Powder Coated)
Accessories are included with cage.
Cages come with a pull out tray for easy maintenance.
Easy to assemble.

<hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

The cage my girls are in is quite large as well, 24X24X48 PVC coated wire and the like. But it doesn't give the girls much room to glide in. And the door to my bathroom isn't large enough for the cage to fit through, so I end up sponging it down on the kitchen lenolium. (I live in an apartment complex)

For $100, would the flight cage be a good purchase?

Not bad, powder coating is great! But do you know what's under the powder coating? I know it's near impossible to chip, but if it does & you've got galvanized under there - Yuck! Just one thing to check before you buy! sounds good though - where's the pic?

Well, it's shorter than your current cage, so that's a downside. Do you know how large the doors are? That's something to consider because if they're too small, you won't be able to get the wheel in or move your arm around freely to clean it.

Personally, I would stick with the cage you have. Your door must be quite small if a 2' wide cage doesn't fit through <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nixweiss.gif" alt="" />. If it's a pain to clean, though, might as well go for something that's going to be easier <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />.

I bought a cage almost exactly like that from our local pet store for $60. They are cheap cages but perfect for gliders. I think the producer of the cage I have was from president pet. I found the web site it is presidentpet.com and they have the cages I was talking about. The only thing is they don't have the prices or how to order but I know they can becuase our pet store has there cages. Here's a pic of the cage I have.

I'll definatley have to ask if the wire is galvanized underneath!
Oi! I didn't think about how large the doors may be! I so silly!

This is exactly why I ask <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> I tend to overlook the obvious! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

I would go with the 52" tall one, for the extra $25.

This cage is also nice, and about half the price, but a little bit narrower- http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...64&rd=1

What I really want to do, is take two of the cages I linked, and take out the sides and zip tie them together, and make one big one.

Thegliderplayroom, thats the cage that I just bought for my two female gliders. It cost $89 so im not sure where you come up with 'about half the price' of what? The cage that eurynome posted for $100? its only $11 less...lol.

Anyhow, the cage you posted that I bought, is free shipping, and its on wheels, which is a big plus here at my house...except putting it together was fairly easy, dont need any tools, except me being a little challenged at that, Used pliers to help me with it since my fingers just arent strong enough. I would have liked the doors to be bigger, but their new stealth wheel fit through the door and thats the only thing I was worried about. Otherwise, for the price of it and free shipping, its a wonderful cage!

I have cages just like those! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

benefits
*Lightweight and easy to meneuver.
*wheels are quality and will stay in stand (verses the traditional wheels that you have to pop into cages while assembling, this is mainly with the HQ offbrand heavyweight cage)
*nice, large cage for a good price
*Powder coating is easier to clean than vinyl coating (IMO) you don't need to do as much scrubbing and it doesn't keep odors in.
*If you ever wanted to make this cage larger later on, you could just purchase another one, attach the stands together with zip ties, take the sides out and attach them together as well.

Drawbacks
*Being lightweight, and less durable than traditional cages such as the wrought Iron or Vinyl coated, when your glider is in it's wheel the cage will shake just a little bit causing it to be louder than is would if you had a traditional cage. Your best bet with this cage is to purchase a stealth wheel and attach it securely to the top or the bottom, stay away with attaching it to the sides. I have noticed it's louder when you attach it to the sides for some reason.
*Stand doesn't have a rack at the bottom so you can't hold extra pouches and what have you (I don't know why this would matter, but some people care)

So these are what I could think of. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumb.gif" alt="" />

JenJen- the shipping on the longer cage is about $60, but the $89 cage is free shipping. That's how I got that!!! It would be $175 for the longer cage after shipping, and $178 for two of the others. Or there's auctions where you can get 3 of those $89 cages for $140 after shipping- that's what I do.

this website has a lot of odd sized shapes of those flight cages:
http://birdandcage.com/flight.html

but all of the ones I have seen on eBay were cheaper anyway. Just thought I would share all of the fun sizes they come in. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I was considering purchasing this cage from ebay, but had some of the same questions. What do you think of it and the price? It is 30x18x55 with wheels it is 58in high, 1/2 in bar spacing, slide out bottom pan, Powder coated finish, it is being sold on ebay for $89.00 and free shipping. I attached a picture also. I have a breeding pair and there twin joeys to put in it! What do you think?

As if stated before in another post about this same cage, you need to be careful who you buy from. The seller selling this cage has some negative feedback about broken, bent and missing pieces of his cages. It's your money. Just letting you know sometimes spending a bit more is better in the long run.

i just saw the same cage i was talking about at the above mentioned website http://birdandcage.com/flight.html , If this is an acceptable size cage would it be better to purchase it from them, it was realitively close to the same price!

The only problem there is that you have to buy them in lots of two, which may not be feasible for some owners.

I wouldn't mind buying from jmexotics - he has hundreds of positive comments and not that many complaints. When considered in the grand scheme of things, I'd trust him/her. I'd be more likely to blame a damaged cage on shipping mishaps.

I wanted to say something about the cage from e-bay. I had bought several of these and even put them on my website for sale. I am now using them myself because I didn't want to sale them and have people disappointed. They come with no instructions and they must be secounds or something I had to use zip ties to keep them together and they won't sit in stand. I had to drill holes in the stand and run zipties to hold them. For the price i guess it isn't bad they turned out to be good cages and very roomy if you want to do all the modifications.

they are very easy to figure out how to put together though. It took me about 15 minutes per cage I think.

The stand is actually a platform, it is meant to come off and on like that. The only time I myself use them is when I need to stack the three footers and move them outside to be cleaned. Other than that though I don't use the wheels, so for me Im glad they don't attach on and off.

But the ones I got from JMexotics were bent up along some of the cage doors and that kind of made me mad. All in all though I really like these cages still.

[:"blue"] Be sure to read very carefully if you buy from birdandcage. Like has already been posted, the prices are based on multiples of 2 per carton. I also noticed that many of the cages were made of galvanized wire. Don't believe the flight cages were, but I just went through very quickly. [/]

I got a cage off ebay over all it was nice. There were a few dented places, and that was from the shipping.

Wow, that sucks that denting is so common! I changed my mind then, heh. I'd been looking at the JMExotics cages for a while and thought there were far more good comments than bad, but.. I guess not!

So what cage is everyone suggesting?? The one the post is about, or the JMExotics cage or the one from the website if you can purchase the lot of two!

Personally I don't like 'prison bar' type cages. I like a grid for gliders, so they don't jump and slide down. I've had both.
