Would it be lonely for a glider if I just had one? Do they prefer to be with another glider?

Nia is the most content glider and she has not really ever seen our other gider. Just let him/her be with you enough, that is what i did.

Ok, great. I plan to get other gliders down the road (end of this year or early 2006) so he wouldn't be alone for long..

Well, gliders are social animals and prefer company, but you can get away with just having one. If you do, you will have to spend LOTS of time with it to keep it from getting depressed and lonely. Some gliders are happy lone gliders for their entire lives, but others will become depressed and lonely and essentially require the companion of another glider. A single glider is a lot of work, but can stay happy if you're willing to put in the time it takes to ensure his/her happiness .

Although it may work out to spend enough time with a single glider to keep him/her happy, a pair can have a blast playing together. We just adopted our first pair on Saturday and entertained our family for hours just watching them play together in their new home. I feel content knowing that they can keep each other company when we are not together. Also, I don't know about you, but I do not like sleeping alone. I guess that comes with being married for 20+ years.

I had my first glider as a single for 6 months and she was fine. However, I spent a lot of time bonding with her. That said, I just got her a little sister and she is sooooooooo happy. She just loves her little sister. I have even noticed that she is more playful during out of cage time (I didn't think that was possible!).
I understand the desire to start with one. I had never seen one in person until I picked her up (I did tons of research, though.). I wanted to make sure that I understood how they act and interact with people before I brought another into the mix. It worked for me, but it is really an individual decision.
