Ive got two cats and a glider whos 8 months. The cats are about 8 months and 6 months. When binky is in his hampster ball, he chases them around. its SO funny! Do suggies and cats usually get along?

No I've heard that they don't. But I cannot say this personally. Cats have an instinct to chase rodents (mice)etc...sorry I couldnt be of more help

Cats and gliders are a bad idea, very very bad. It might appear they are playing, and I have heard of rare instances of cats and rodents being "friends" but nonetheless, cats do have instincts. Even if the cat is trying to play w/ his "friend" and pounces on him as cats do the weight of the cat could very much hurt your glider. I really do not recommend it.

i have one cat in family, she pretends when i am around the gliders, she don't care about them, but if i leave her in room with cage, she doing the stalking thing. so we keep her shut out of glider room, for glider safty. i wouldn't trust a cat with gliders, and agree with everyone else on cat instincts and rodents. thats what cats do, normally.

I've not had any situations with my cats and my gliders, I try to keep them separated as much as possible. However, I did have a hamster who would constantly get out of his cage and I never had a problem. In fact, the cats would watch over Rudy making sure that he was safe! More than once, I would come home to find Rudy in the cat dish stuffing cat food in his cheeks and the cats would just ignore him.

I know this doesn't help with your question, but I was mildly amused by their actions with Rudy.

My silly cats are afraid of my gliders... but even so, I still shut the door to the glider room.

Well, usually yes, this is a BAD idea, but cats are "personality" animals, meaning all of them are different. (As are suggies) My kitty for example, will NOT hurt my rodents. She even refuses to eat any thing other than dry cat food, but most cats won't hesitate to pounce on a loose hamster, bird, flying squirrel, suggie, etc..and if the cat wouldn't normally go for the glider baby, s/he probably would if that baby took a nip at him/her. Just know your animals, and better safe than sorry, ya know. If my kitty decided to eat my 200 dollar suggie, I'd sure wanna kick my self for ever taking a chance.

Our cats tend to follow binky around in his hampster ball and are generally curious when they peek outa their pouches. Lin (siameese) sits and watches them for an hour or so every night. Its really funny.

That's cute. They sound just like my cat, more curious than hungry, heehee. Back when I still had my ginger, I had a (quite large) male house cat that just LOVED to follow the hamster ball around and kick at it, which usually lead to one POed, hissing, crabbing glider. Usually the crabbing scared my cat away, but when this stressed my glider out, I QUICKLY sent the cat to live with a family member, and Ginger was her sweet, happy self again. So basically, just keep an eye on them, watch to make sure they don't kick the ball into a wall or table, etc,. Personally, I like to put the hamster ball in a large child's playpen (you know, one that folds up and unfolds, and looks sort of like a round fence) and let them roll around. This has always worked for me, but just do what ever works for you and your suggie.

i have kitties but onmly one indoor cat that actuallt sleeps ontop of the glider cage. she is declawed and she's 5 years old and kinda mellow i dotn care i just want to sleep kind of cat. i've had kittens all my life but they dont stay in my room with the glider anymore just my delila the cat i spoke of. my cat cuddles and asleeps with my guinnea pig hamsters and even my new baby glider and the glider finds the cat fuzzy and soft to lay with lol. i've had my baby delila since the day she was born and i trust her completley. she actually hisses at my dog when the dog oges near the gliders cage. we fouind out 2 years ago that my cat was unable to have babys she's a bombay and we wanted to breed her and it turns out she's taken a rather motherly instainct to the new baby. i definatly trust my cat with my glider she's one in a million though lol.

I had a cat years ago I would have trusted with them- actually have had 2 that way.. one sept with my pet turtle years ago.. turtles head out and on the cats paw... but unfortunately they are both in kitty heaven and I can't see having another one right now due to DH's allergies, so they won't be a concern for the gliders...

I have 2 indoor cats. Cats and gliders are not a good mix, and a cat following the hamster ball around is displaying its instinct to stalk its prey. I would not leave them unsupervised and NEVER let your cats be near your glider when it is not in its hamster ball. My two cats are definately not hunters, the one is so fat her belly drags, LOL, but nonetheless, the door to my room (which is where Xander's cage is) is ALWAYS kept shut. It might look cute, but that is your kitten's natural instincts kicking in. Just be careful

more then likely suggie has the urge to fight for him self...it has been my experience that gliders as little fighters....cats, dogs, and especially ferrets (ask me about the ferrets it funny)...i think as little as gliders are they still see the majority of life as food...

my gliders all gang up and run the cat over.. its funny.. he used to like to watch them crawl.. he'd lay on the floor by me and watch them as they'd be running in their hamster ball, but, now.. he's up as high as he can get when they are in their hamster ball.. I don't really trust that cat with them though... especially not with Lil Squirt.. He's about the size of a mouse.. and not getting any bigger (the twins.. which came out of pouch 4 days before him are like 3 times his size)... I have a miniature sized hamster ball for Lil Squirt, and the cats not afraid of him as he is with the parents... and its funny because.. my boy Tipsy has bit the cat before.. because Tipsy had ran and got his ball stuck and the cat was trying to move the ball.. and had his paw on the ball, and sure enough Tipsy bit him through one of the slits in the ball.. I laughed soooo hard when the cat took off...

I have two cats, Azhure grew up with both rats and gliders and used to share his bowl with two hairless rats. Indie has excaped before and Azhure just watches her. He loves them, and follows them, but I know he wouldn't hurt them. I never even shut my rat cage, they just came in and out as they pleased, even when I wasn't home. In fact Azhure was confused why he couldn't get into their cage with them!

But my Boyfriends cat (my BF recently moved in with me) his cat is a different story. I'm a bit more worried about him. But he's a big wussy, so I "think" the gliders crabbing would scare him,. though this has yet to be tested.

I think it depends on your cat. Since your two are so young, I would introduce them and get them use to the gliders. Then you can be sure that if you do have an escapee one night, your kitties won't hurt them.

thanks for all your replies. I keep a GOOD eye on the cats and when binky is crawling on my shoulder and the cats come near, theyre shooed away. Ive seen lin (siameese) kill a bird before, so im sure shed go after one of my suggies
