I've contemplated this too, so I'm going to watch this thread with interest.
I'm afraid my gliders have become incurable Floor Gliders for lack of stuff to climb on. They like to get up high on the curtains and the cage, and we recently built them a 7' play-tree covered in carpet, but I've been thinking of roping those things together with something hung from the ceiling so they could get from cage to curtains to tree without having to touch the ground.
I've also contemplated getting them a fake tree. One of those indoor things of plastic and silk, but i just doubt it would be healthy. We don't get enough sunlight in that room, I think, to actually get a REAL tree to survive in there.

Every glider is different. I've had some chew on the so called safe toys. If they do pick apart the threads on the rope, it certainly can be a big problem. Stick to safe branches or artificial ones, etc Better safe than sorry!!

i have one of those "comfy perch" things in there now...its basically a rope perch instead of a wood one. she doesnt chew on that so i dont think she'd chew on other rope if its thick enough.

My guys LOVE rope! I went to the hardware store and bought a couple lengths of some really thick, natural (not the plastic-type stuff) rope to hang from the ceiling of their cage. They LOVE to leap from across the cage onto the rope, which swings back and forth when they hit it. It's like a big rope swing, and is the fastest way to get from top to bottom, or vice versa, of the cage. Just make sure they've got trimmed nails. The other synthetic/plastic ropes, usually yellow color, is kinda dangerous cause they can pull strands of it out and possibly get it looped around something.

I have tons of rope strung up in the tent which my gliders love to play on. I also use that flat webbing stuff in the tent. Its really cheap from the hardware store and they love to run and climb on it: http://www.urbanhart.com/shopsite/webbing_webbing.html
