Use a warm, damp q-tip to gently remove the goop. Is it sticky? Or is it just that you see some white film? If it's just white film, it is probably the inner eyelid that you are seeing. Do NOT try to remove that, if that's what it is smile

Are her eyes just opening? You could take a lukewarm soft cloth and gently hold it over her eye to loosen any matter that has hardened and then very gently wipe it away. But, particularly if her eyes are just opening, don't rub at her eye or try to help it open. If the goop continues to form, you might be dealing with an eye infection that needs to be seen by a vet for proper medications.

It is a creamish goop. I will watch it and if it doesn't go away in the next day I will call the vet.

The eye may have an infection. If so... you need to have the tiny one examined by a vet. Usually an eye ointment is perscribed.

Question, so if my glider has an eye infection can I get it? I am very good at washing my hands but I have noticed one of my eyes starting to get watery....

I think it would depend on whether the infection was caused by a virus or a bacteria. If a virus, then no. If a bacteria, then it's entirely possible. Since the goop is creamy, then I would take the little one in to a vet for examination and possible antibiotic drops.

I took the babies to the vet yesterday. It appears that both babies have eye infections and the vet gave us some drops and antibiotics. She also said that they look very healthy smile

Thank you for the update! I'm happy to hear that they are being treated. Just remember to wash inbetween handeling them and other gliders until the infections cleared up.
All the best to you and your babies. hug2

Wow this hand raising Joey's is no easy task... Sorry about the delay in response grin So the eyes are looking better other then the girl joey who had the eye infection first seems to have something going on with it still. Her eye that had been infected looks very enlarged and her eyeball looks cloudy. The infection appears to be gone but I am still doing their antibiotics until it has been the 7-10 days but was wondering if anyone had any helpful comments.... dunno

Does your vet have a veterinary ophthalmologist that you can maybe get in to see? They would be able to help you more than the regular vet when it comes to eye issues wink

This sounds like the joey is developing an interocular problem and may have either secondary glaucoma (caused by the primary infection) and/or a cataract developing. This is actually how my Pika ended up blind. She started with a normal eye infection, the eye became swollen and cloudy due to secondary glaucoma and then a cataract developed. You need to have the joey seen by a vet, and (as recommended by Becki) a veterinary opthalmologist if possible. Further treatment is needed for any hope of saving the joey's vision in that eye. Without further treatment (the antibiotic alone is not enough), the joey could go blind and possibly need to have the eye inucleated (removed)... I'm not trying to scare you here... I just want you to be able to get the joey the treatment she needs. hug2
I've attached a couple of pictures of Pika's eyes when she was fighting with the similar issue.

In this picture, you can see that Pika's right eye is goopy with infection and the left eye is swollen and cloudy due to secondary glaucoma.

This picture shows just Pika's left eye with the swelling and cloudiness from the secondary glaucoma visible.

Thank you both for the help. I am not sure that my vet has a ophthalmologist they can refer me to but I will call today and ask. She is the same vet that Xfilefan uses and pretty much is just amazing smile Suz since they have such little eyes I can not see the cloudiness as well as what your picture has so I have attached some pics of her to see what you guys think. I am planning on calling the vet today so hopefully she can see her or refer me to an eye vet. I have pretty much depleted my emergency glider funds so I am hoping that it is not as bad as what you mentioned. But we will see and if I have to work OT to pay for it then so be it smile Luckily I get to take them with me to work so I wouldn't have to be away from them. Well look at the pics and let me know. Sorry they aren't the best but I tried to take different angles to show how swollen it appears.

I haven't been able to get her in yet cry but I talked to the vet and I have an appointment for her tomorrow. She wants to gas her some so that she is not in pain and so she can poke around in the eye to see what is needed. She said is a good sign that she is eating which she is, little miss piggy. The fact that she appears to not have much hair around the eye like her other eye is a sign that she has an infection which is something I didn't know. I will let you all know once I am back from the vet tomorrow at 11:30. Thank you all for all the help. Ohhh forgot to add that the boy's eye infection has healed nicely grin at least. Now to go home and tell the hubby it will be another $$$ wish me luck.

Went to the vet. It isn't as bad as we thought dance She is putting her on a stronger antibiotic and I will go back and see her in 2 weeks. I can not remember what the name of it is, I just know that she had to put a special request in because the pharmacies do not usually have it. She thinks that Hope will not be blind at all in that eye. Keeping fingers crossed. Thanks again for all the help grin

Well we went and got the second medicine due to the current one not working on the girl. Her eye just keeps getting worse and it looks like her eye is getting even cloudier. The vet gave me a med called Chloramphenicol. Hopefully it will help her eye start to improve. Dang eye infections cry

My 5 week old female joey has had an eye infection for the last few weeks. I have taken her to the vet multiple times and she has been on meds for it. It looked like it was almost healed and then tonight I got her out of the pouch and saw a clear ball on the outside of th infected eye. I have pictures below of the clear ball that ended up falling off, but I have it in a bag. Help! Did her eye ball really fall out?

Oh my word! Is there anything in the eye socket??? cry

Is the ball a solid mass? As if it were her eyeball?

I wouldn't think that it would be.. but I really am not sure because it appears to be so in the last photo. hug2

When I felt around the eye it does not feel like the there is much in there. The clear ball is not a hard solid but it is like a ball like Tapioca pudding. I know that is gross to compare it to but I do not know how else to explain it. Her eye socket is cloudy and the bit of black looks like it is torn. She isn't [censored] out or anything. She has been eating and is not sleeping in my lap. She doesn't seem to concerned about it. dunno She has had a severe eye infection for a while and we have been fighting it but it is just not getting better and sadly I think that the clear ball is her eye. I called the emergency vet that isn't that familiar with gliders and they said if she is not bleeding and is acting normal that she could wait to see her regular vet tomorrow. I just am not sure though... Ughhh

Based on the pics and your description, it sounds like the eyeball might have burst open and that ball was the inner part of the eyeball. With a severe infection, this can happen.
I'm assuming at least one of the meds is an antibiotic. It may be that she needs a different type. If she is on an antibiotic, it may not be a good enough one to be fighting her infection.
She needs to go back to the vet. He'll probably want to clean out the eye socket and get out any remaining tissue and then probably sew the eye socket shut.

I have a dog that got a severe eye injury that led to an infection. We had him on antibiotics at first but it wasn't getting better and at his next check-up the vet decided it was time to remove the eye before it burst. Once the eye was removed, his infection cleared up quickly and he lives a very happy one-eyed life wink .

Oh and since she's eating well and acting okay, and based on what I went through with my dog, you probably can wait until the morning to take her to your regular vet.
But you'll probably want to stay up with her tonight and make sure she doesn't start messing with it or SM'ing.
Since she's 5 wks., has she been with her parents or are you hand raising her? If she's been with her parents, I don't think I'd put her back with them at all tonight. They might try to overgroom the eye area and make things worse.
