Friday I noticed that the "mini-colony" was picking on Rosie II. I took her out and took her to work with me to give her a break from her cage mates. Friday night, I put up the big cage. Well, that didn't go over with my wife, so it was removed, and the min-colony was put back in a small cage. I was playing with Rosie Saturday night, and I noticed her nose had been chewed on. I immediately put her in a cage by herself. I checked on the rest of the mini-colony, and to my horror, I found that Racer had had his eye scratched or something. It was all blue. I knew that there was nothing anyone could do about it, so I put him in with his sister, Rosie II. I came home from work monday evening, and discovered what I thought was pus on his eye. I left for the vet as soon as I could. Instead of tell me that he had an infection, the vet told me that what I was seeing, was the insides of his eye coming through a tear in the cornea. After a breif discussion via cell phone with Judie, I decided we would try to see if sewing the eye shut for a week would maybe let it heal itself. We go back to his regular vet on Saturday, so I will post more after we get back from the vet. Right now, it is looking as if he will loose his eye. I am not too worried about his life after loosing the eye, because even without it right now, he is as happy as ever, and hopping all around as if nothing is wrong (with the exception of the tape on his paws to keep him from scratching the sutures out again). Despite the appearance of his face, I have to laugh everytime I see him hopping around....the tape on his paws kinda reminds me of a duck....a glider with duck feet.

I am so sorry to hear about your babies! (guys can have babies now? Don't go there...Don't go there.....heehee) I am glad to hear that they seem to be handling things like little troopers. Please keep us posted on how they are doing! I always HATE to hear of our little angels battling health issues. Best wishes and prayers for you and your little ones!

Glider smooches and face hugs to all,

Gliderbuff!

John, so sorry to hear about your little ones not doing so good. I had to chuckle at your description of duck feet! I have to agree an eye is not so bad to a life. Glad you caught it in time! Hopefully it will heal and all will be well, and he will two eyes again, those eyes, I don't know what it is, but something about them just get to me! Take care!

We just got back from the vet, and it is good news!!! He will be able to keep his eye, and he may, or may not, have the use of it again.
Dr. Welle was really excited to see Roz again, and meet her joeys. He was even more amazed that she is carrying joeys again!!!
While we were there, I decided to put Moki on the scales (which he almost broke....LOL) and was amazed to find out...he is a hefty 120 grams!!!!

Well....Racer managed to knock his "boxing glove" off, and remove the suture. Oh well...that was our other option anyway..leaving the eye exposed, and applying meds. I guess I should have listened to him, and my wallet, and went with that plan in the first place. Anyway...I will keep and eye out on him, and go back this saturday for his check-up. Hopefully, all will be well!!!

John, you need to post an update. Did your guy go to the vet on Saturday as planned. Sure praying his eye is on the mend dispite his hanging up his boxing gloves.

Gosh...I forgot to post an update!! Sorry about that!! Racer is Fine now, and living in a new home. I was really hoping that he could stay here, but I was given a offer too good to pass up for him. He is super sweet, and can se out of both eyes!!!
Airhead, This is fairly normal, especially with colonies. In colonies, the males will fight for dominance, and sometimes the females will do the same.
