I am wondering what parents would produce a WFL...I am interested in learning the genetics behind this. Anyone have any info?

A WFB paired with a Lion would the combination. I would also help if the WF has lion in it's back ground... In all reality, lion is just another phase of the blonde coloring, it's just deeper and richer...

I was going to breed for White Face Lion, but instead, I paired my WFB up with a Champagne instead, and bought a Red girl and a buttercream girl for my lion.

The reason for this being, that I think the WF gene is very dominant. It is like trying to breed for a White Face Cinnamon. People have a Cinnamon and a WFB paired together, but get WFB babies. I think, like Leyna said, if your going to breed for a WFL, try to find a WF with a strong Lion background.

This is why I decided to instead, breed for a deeper, more beautiful lion color, than to try and breed for a WFL.

I believe Gizmosgal breeds WFL's.

Yes, I breed for wf lion. I am not really big on genetics, but I can base my response on my experience. I believe that the wf lions are really a mutation of the blond gene. I do not know of any wfl's that came into being by breeding a wf to a lion, (not that it's impossible). It seems like the ones that I have and the ones that I know of came about through solid wfb breeding from generation to generation. My wf lions are second generation. One of my pairs just had a joey, so as a third generation baby, it will be interesting to see what color he becomes.

Stephanie (PerfectForm) had a baby born to a lion female and wfb male. The baby was a white face and she said the female always has lion babies, so it would be nice to see what color that joey becomes as it matures. Maybe she will see this post and update us with a picture.

For the fun of it, I am attaching a picture of my wfl female and her new joey. Look at what a messy girl she is...she always spits out the mealie skins.

So then a WFL would come from a WFB and WFL pair? Or a WFL/gray pair? Or a WFL/WFL pair?

Well, technically my white face lions are just third generation white face blonds. No "lions" were bred to increase the color. Have you ever seen pictures of Sheila's Calypso? Neither of his parents have his sunkissed color. I believe that he is also a third generation wfb. I could be wrong though.

Megi.. you're hurting my head. lol. From what I'm guessing.. from what's been said so far.. is WFL is just a happy accident from breeding higher generations of WFBs. I think. lol. Owe.. Migrain. lol. Are you keeping things from me>? You secretly have a breeding program and are trying for amazing babies under the guise of not being able to have any gliders at al... aren't you? lolol. (teehee Juuust kidding, lol). Luv Ames!

ooh. ps.. gizmosgal.. PRETTY GIRLIE. lol. She looks so nice against the pretty girlie pink pouch. teehee. lol.

No, unfortunately, not all third generation wfb will develope the phenominal colors. I believe Calypso came oop showing his unique color. My new baby is not showing any yellow or orange yet, but he is still a cutie. Genetics are not always predictable, but that's what makes life interesting, lol.

Thanks Ames!

Right now we do not have the data on WFB to know if it is a single gene, double gene, or more. It could be dominate on one gene and recessive on another. When other colors are thrown into the mix it complicates an already complicated puzzle. The real truth is we do not know and will not know without extensive research into the geneologies and genetics of each color and line. This is true for all colors, though some are known better than others.

hehe Ames, I was just curious what would produce that beautiful lion color and the WF in one...I love both colors so much and was thinking of how beautiful they'd be together. I know that there aren't a lot of people breeding for that color...

I'm glad to see so many posts on this thread...It's given me a lot of info...

You could check out Priscilla also, she might have bred one or two WFL. If she has I'd LOVE to see pics, as would the rest of us I'm sure

Wow. He's gorgeous! Lions are probably my favorite color

I have a female from two cinnamon parents that has a lot of yellow and orange in her. She has a red stripe and a yellow/orange body. I won't call her a lion until she matures, but that's how she's looking to me. I am going to pair her with a later gen WFB male in the future (ideally) and see what we get. I can't wait

I would imagine that if you bred a lion to a nice blonde wf, that you would eventually get an offspring that would bear the traits of what we would consider to be a wf lion.

I've always thought that there was more to the lion coloring than being another phase of blonde.
It always seemed to me that they have a more deep blonde color that usually has some reddish hues to it as well?

No offense to anyone, but I haven't yet seen a glider that is a good melding of both the beautiful lion traits that some of Priscilla's more spectacular lions have, and the whiteface trait. I'm talking Matthew(Priscilla's lion) minus the sidebars. Who knows, most of the offspring of lion/wf combinations haven't even matured yet, so much remains to be seen. I would definitely would love to see a deeply colored wf lion, I think it will be a lovely combo

Man, lions are beautiful... a white face lion I'm sure would be an absolute spectacle to behold in real life!

Matt is Matthew's son and so this makes this wf lion Matthew's grandson.

Ern, this is exactly why I decided not to breed for the WF lion. I know that it would help the bloodline, but I dont think pairing the 2 together wouldnt give me the color I am looking for, which is, like you said, a Mathew colored lion minus the bars under its ears.

Aquarius is Mathew's son, so you can't get any closer to Mathew than that, Aquarius's mother is Shadow, a red glider from the Alfie line. Instead of producing "WF Lions" that aren't lion enough, I have decided to continue working on the intense Lion color. Aquarius has a deep red cinnamon female and a very light buttercream female being shipped to me tomorrow night (so excited lol).

Lion is definitly not a degree of blonde. Lion has red in it, like Ern said. Lion is an orange color, not a blonde color. A sunkissed blonde is just that... a sunkissed blonde (which is why it has a seperate name). You might be able to get a nicer looking lion if you paired a lion up with a 3rd gen blonde, the blonde color might enhance it, but that is about it.
