Everyone knows Graci's story, pretty much. Georgi is Graci's cage mate. Two days ago I noticed he wasn't moving very well and was dehydrated. We pulled them out of their cage and did a nail trim and I noticed that Georgi had torn a back toenail off. It wasn't infected or bloody, just gone and I am sure it was sore. I blame myself for that and I thought maybe that was why he wasn't moving around too well. We gave Georgi 1.5 sub-q fluids for the dehydration, made sure he was eating dinner ok and I made an appointment for him the next day. He was breathing heavily, very lethargic and eyes half shut by the time I got home and got him there (vet's). We discussed blood tests and x-rays for him, but we were both afraid the stress and anesthetic would push him over the edge and he wouldn't make it thru it. We discussed his diet and she ruled out Giardia, but did not do a fecal on him (?) She put him on .2cc of Baytril and advised me to just keep him hydrated and supplement his food until he is in better shape to do more tests or he recovers with the Baytril. She thinks he may have the same problems Graci does (kidney disease)given their history, just he hasn't shown the signs until now. Last night, he got his meds and licked 1/2 cube of BML from my finger and ate some yogurt. This morning, he wouldn't even look at food, not even a mealie. I managed to get almost 2cc of diluted BML down him before I had to come to work. My office is currently "in trouble" because one of my office mates has decided over the last year to work about 2 days a week, so we are ranked 42 worst out of 43 offices and were told yesterday to miss work could end up in termination. I can't even stay home with Georgi to make sure he is ok! I am pretty sure by the time I get home, he will have passed over to the Rainbow Bridge. I guess I am just venting my anger and fears and frustrations here and asking for any advice, prayers or help anyone can give me to help my little guy out. Thanks for listening.

I am so very sorry to read about Georgi. I will pray that the meds do some good and that Georgi is there to greet you when you get home.

Melissa,

I am so sorry darlin' I know what you have gone through with Graci, so I know that this is just a double shock for you. Just remember, you had thought many times before that you would lose Graci, and look how she is doing, I'm sure you will pull Georgi through this as well.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and the critter crew

Love....

I'll be praying for you and Georgi - I know this day will seem like forever to you. You have lots of prayers and thoughts coming your way from members of this board! Keep your chin up - if prayers and thoughts help, Georgi should be fine!

Melissa, Prayers being said. I know how hard it is to be stuck and work and not able to leave, but every fiber in your body is ready to bolt out the door. It's almost noon, so, half the day is gone, will keep Georgi and you in my prayers. Take care and know that we all care. Try and stay busy as hard as it is, but the time will pass faster! Sending you glider hugs.

Melissa:

Sorry to hear Georgi is under the weather. I know how difficult it is when one of the little guys is sick. Hang in there....my experience is that furbutts are a lot tougher than we give them credit for.

My thoughts and prayers be with you and the little one. Things will work out for the best.

Oh, Melissa, I am so very very sorry. If you're like me, you probably getting that much accomplished at work ... just being a warm body.

I truly hope that Georgi gets better or waits for you to get home.

It's times like this when words just don't seem adequate but you know that you are in our hearts and prayers.

Thank you guys so much for all the words of comfort today. It's helped me all day to check the board and see these messages, of course, tearing up and crying all over my keyboard hasn't helped me out here..lol.. but like Karen says, I am just a warm body here today. I leave my office in about 15 minutes and will soon see how Georgi is doing. My home pc is out of order right now, but I will post tomorrow and let ya'll know how he is. Thank you all again from the bottom of my heart for your support and kindness and prayers.

I am posting on behalf of Melissa...

This morning Georgi lost his battle. Though he gave a good fight, he past in Melissa's hands...she had given him his meds, and shortly after he had seizures and stopped breathing.

Melissa wanted me to thank everyone for their kind words, and she would have posted herself, but with no PC at home and she couldn't bring herself to go to work where there was one, she asked me to post in her place.

Melissa, I am so sorry darlin, just know you did everything you could, and I'll be thinking of you...if you need me, you know where I am if you need me.

Love....

I just wanted to let everyone know that I got Georgi's necropsy results back on Friday morning. He died of lung cancer. My vet said that there was almost no normal tissue left, it was almost all a fibrous mass of cancer. She did the necropsy for free, for her own knowledge, or we never would have known. I would have posted sooner, but I have been flat on my back sick since Friday. Thank you all for your thoughts, prayers and kind words. He is indeed playing on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge, waiting for Graci to join him, no longer suffering or in pain. Take care all.
