One of my male's teeth are yellow at the base - I was worried about them, so I asked my vet to look at them to see if is was something I should be worried about. He said they looked fine, so I didn't worry about it. That was about two months ago. He has been acting very odd...and has lost some weight. I think it is somehow related to the teeth. I am taking him to the vet tomorrow, but does any one know if yellow teeth is a sign of something in particular?

Thanks!~

Is your gliders lower jaw swollen at all? If the teeth are turning yellow & the jaw is swollen he could have a jaw infection which could be causing him some pain when he is trying to eat.

That's a good sign! It could be that he just has some tartar buildup that's causing the discoloration.

But how he is acting is really worrying me. Sometimes he will sit with his head tilted to one side, and everything he does seems really slow. He has an appointment today at 12:30...so I will hopefully find something out then.

Have your vet check the gliders gums as well. If they are red or inflamed, more than likely gingivitis has begun. No jaw swelling has to be present for gum disease as we have recently discovered.

Ask your vet to do a swab of the gumline and check for a bacteria growth. The glider will have to be put under for this as the vet will have to push the gum level down a bit from a tooth, similar to us pushing a cuticle away from a nail so to speak. They can then swab the gum tissue and do a smear to check for any bacteria growth.

If your vet needs to consult a vet about this, feel free to have them call Dr.Tim Tristan at 361-994-1145

He stayed at the vet's last night because the doctor was sick...so he was going to either come in later last night if he was feeling better, or see him first thing when he got in this morning.

I'll let you know how he is when I find out more...I will be going to the vet this morning.

Thanks everyone!

He's on an antibiotic because the vet thinks he may have some sort of infection. I took another glider in (Athena, who had something similar to lumpy jaw before) because I discovered that she had red and swollen looking gums. He also put her on antibiotic and a mouth rinse. After seeing how the teeth of these two were, I looked at everyone's...and everybody else looked good. Athena and Hercules are going back to the vet in a week for another check-up.

Thank you for the update. Sending you and your little ones lots of hugs and prayers.
Did the vet say what type of an infection?
