I have been a bad daddy. We got our glider Radar about a year ago, and we had no idea there was so much special care involved. We got her when she was about three, and her previous owner knew nothing about gliders either. So naturaly she didn't give us any info except for her diet, which from reading your posts i guess is all wrong.
(cat food, good sense tropical trail mix) We haven't found anything fresh she likes except apples and she doesn't want them often. I'm sorry if this isn't the right board to post on, but she also bites when you try to play with her or hold her. We tried a rodent ball for her to run around in but she mainly went to a dark spot and just sat there. We really would like to have her be sweet, but have no idea where to start. We love her dearly but are clueless, please help if you can. Any advice would be more than we have.

Hi, and Welcome to Glider Central!
The kind of questions you have are why GC exists, and what we are here for! Hopefully, these will help some:
bonding links:
Bourbon's Trust and Bonding Info

To and Fro Gliders Bonding page

and some healthy diets:
GC Diets Links

Also, for bonding, one of the $18 Jr. Dome tents from Wal-Mart, set up in the living room, with toys, treats, your glider, and you, works wonders for bonding. They get used to you, without having to interact until they are ready (but in the confines of the tent it tends to happen much faster) and aren't as difficult to catch when playtime is over. If they aren't ready to interact much, you can always take in a book and flashlight to read while the little one has fun! (and for some reason, ignoring them seems to make them want your attention! Go figure ).

I'd get a wheel for the cage, and be cautious of the hamster ball even if he does like it-gliders have gotten fingers/hands caught and injured in the slots. A wodent or stealth wheel is much safer, and still provides exercise.

Any other questions, don't hesitate to ask! It's what we're here for, and the only dumb question is the one that doesn't get asked! Again, welcome to GC, and if there's any way I can help, please feel free to send me a PM here on the board! We're really glad you're with us!

Hello!

Don't feel bad. I thought I knew a lot about Gliders when I got mine but what I thought I knew and what I actually knew were two completely different things! The great thing is that you're here! If you can ask it, someone here can answer it!
The best of luck to you!

Welcome to the board Joshhammer!!! By coming here and asking questions, you are showing that you care about your sugar glider. So do not be bashful about asking questions, because pretty much EVERYONE here will help you in any way they can.

Welcome to GC, and don't feel ashamed to ask help! I'm new here too, and everyone has been awesome so far in helping me learn more.

I'm sure that after a while here reading all the info (the stuff Xfilefan posted is definitely required reading ) you'll be a wonderful sugar(glider)-daddy ^^

P.S.
If you are around the Dallas/Ft. Worth area- I believe there is a meet happening this saturday there where you can meet folks and get first hand info and advice too! Check around the glider community forum!

Hello & welcome!!

To introduce fruits to Radar's diet, maybe you need to "sweeten" the deal by putting Gerber baby's pear juice on it! (MIND YOU, STICK TO BABY JUICES!!! **no sugar**)
Also make sure that the size of the fruit you're offering is no more than 1/2" cubes. (I kid you not, one pair that I rescued was being fed melonballs that were so large I'D have to cut them in 1/2 to eat...so how could a glider hold them??) Try mixing up the menu: fruits like honeydew, watermelon, pears & peaches one night; frozen peas, (babyfood) sweet potato*, (babyfood) squash*, (*add a VERY SMALL amount of honey before serving) the next. Also offer a constant item (pumpkin seeds, coconut & 1/2 of a pecan crumbled into very small pieces). This will help turn the diet around. Also feel free to ask questions as you go along...that's what we're here for!
