I feed my gliders BML, but I was wondering if it is ok to give them soy milk as a treat. It has calcium, but no lactose like real milk, so it seems safe. I just want to make sure before I give the boys some:o) Thanks!

I must have four glasses of soy milk a day! It's yummy. As for gliders, I've never tried but it is also rich in Riboflavin aka Vitamin B series, essential for the proper metabolism and absorption of proteins!
Perhaps someone will come along with more input!

When I got my first glider she was sick. The vet said I could give her a small amount of soymilk or soy beans. She wouldn't eat anything for a while. Thank goodness she recovered and is all grown up now. I give my rejected joeys baby BML thined with a drop or two of soy milk and they drink it well. I use the vanilla flavored. Angie

I thought I had read somewhere that soy wasn't good for gliders. I may very well be wrong though and don't remember where I had read it either. AngieH how long have you been feeding soy milk?

About 2 years, but use it mostly for the baby BML, but thats only a few drops. I feed the BML diet to all my gliders and I don't give a lot of extras. They do love their mealies though, lol. Angie

Yes, some people will say that tofu and soy are bad for your glider. However, evidence only says that prolonged constant use can cause problems. Occasional use of soy milk (and I believe tofu) is not going to hurt your baby. Just like almost everything else, moderation is key.
My guys probably get a tablespoon of it a week. I use it to moisten their biscuts and sometimes as part of a smoothie. My guys love it and I personally can not see any point in not using it considering how much calcium it has.

I believe the issue with soy is that it contains aflatoxins - just the same as crickets. So, no - I don't suppose an occassional treat would hurt, but prolonged use may. I've tried tofu with my kids - they wouldn't eat it anyway, so no big loss.
