I wondered if anyone could help shed any light on why my baby Stuart might have died. He was eating and playful Wed. evening but when I got home last night he was gone. Just sprawled out under his wheel almost like he fell off it. I took him in to the vet today and the only thing found was that his liver was very yellowed. She said that it should have been a dark reddish color instead. Also his hands and feet were yellow too, but she was not positive why. There were very faint traces of blood at his lower lip area but ne cuts or abrasions. Not bloody exactly but more like it was raw maybe. I just can't believe he is gone, and now I just want to be sure why so no one else is lost. She was going to have another vet look at him too, but she couldn't find much. Are there any vitamins that if lacking in diet would cause this yellowed appearance. We are not on BML because none will eat it. Please any knowledge is appreciated I just want to make sure the others never have the same death. Thanks Daphne

I'm so sorry on the loss of your baby. There seems to be many gliders dying that have liver damage for one reason or another. It does sound like it may have been diet related. Since they did not eat BML, can you elaborate on what the gliders were eating? That may help us determine if there were and deficiencies. My thoughts are with you!

I'm sorry to hear about Stuart. How old was he? What did you feed him? You say you aren't on BML, but what was his staple diet, supplements, treats, etc.? Was he overweight? Was his nose also discolored? Perhaps someone can help shed light on why he passed on. Glider hugs to you and your crew.

So sorry to hear about your loss...how awful!!! Im so so sorry! Toni had some great questions that maybe might help someone to shed some light on this tragic death. How much protein do you offer and how often? (If I may ask... and only if you feel up to answering questions... I know you must be heartbroken... Im terribly sorry.) Hugs to you... [ 11-15-2002, 12:03 PM: Message edited by: BMXgirl ]

I'm going to transfer this to GLider Health, because you're asking some health related questions, and I think this may get more attention there .
I'm so sorry about Stuart, and hope that none of your other gliders are affected.
