I would put him in an e collar if you have one or wrap him like a burrito so he can't get at his abdomen and take him to an emergency vet.

we tried to make one that didnt work, we wrapped him in an ace bandage and he got out, we called our reg vet she says theres nothing we can do, I called an emegency vet and the lady that answered the phone would not answer any quest but repeated several times that it would be 179.50 !

which ecollar pattern did you use? You really must keep trying to get one on him. Keep him with you and do what it takes to keep him from doing any more damage. If he has already ripped a hole, then he really needs to see a vet. There is really no way for you to manage this safely on your own.
Is the money an issue? I know that sometimes $200 is not feasible. BUT, if it is, then it is worth it to get him to a vet.
Feel free to register so we can help find a good vet in your area, perhaps even one that will work with you on the money issue. We also may be able to connect you with others in your area who have been through a similar thing.

So sorry you are going through this.

Just try to get him wrapped up like a burrito in a blanket to where he cant move. Keep him on you, get in the car and have someone drive you to the vets office. DONT CALL them just show up.

If the vet is not glider knowledgable take Dr. Tim Tristans number with you 361-994-1145 and have your vet call him. (he wont take calls from patients just the vets.)

You CAN have something done about this. No more phone calls...just GO... before its too late.

Best of luck

not really a money thing - just the fact she would not even speak to me and just kept repeating the price, we dont think hes going to make it, we put him in a dark room with all his fav foods in the chance it could distract him. I haven't found one story that was this bad and lived.

It may not be too late. He doesn't have a chance without medical attention. Just show up at an emergency vet's office. Good luck!

DONT give up on him. and dont let him go after himself anymore than he already has.

it is NOT going to distract him and keep him from attacking himself...

Gliders do this because they are in pain. The only way they know to relieve the pain is to try to remove it. By doing that they cause more damage. To just put him in a dark room by himself with all his favorite foods is just allowing him to continue going after himself. Leading to a VERY PAINFUL death...please do NOT do that to this little glider.

Please, if nothing else, wrap him up like a burrito, take him to the nearest vet and ask them to euthanize him to relive him of his pain...but do NOT leave him alone to do it for himself...PLEASE

I know what it is like not to want to deal with someone who is rude and inconsiderate. But, Peggy is right. This started because he is in pain and will end with him in pain if he doesn't get help.

PLEASE don't give up on him. I have a glider who everyone said was going to die -- even had 3 vets say to put him down. But I did not give up and Jackie Chan is still with me today. So, you might just be the one to pull him through this. BUT, you will have to have medical attention.

hug2 to you and the little glider. Please get him to a vet.

Putting him in a dark room will not help him and make him better.

There IS something you can do.

In the very least, even if the damage is too bad to save him, he can be humanely euthanized by the vet to prevent further suffering.

Hopefully the vet can still treat him...many gliders are able to recover from self-mutilation.

Forget the rude lady, just burrito wrap him and go. Please keep us posted and let us know if we can help further.

Can we ask where you are located and maybe someone from that area can help you with this probelm. Many of us have e-collars already made and can help you get it on him but you really need to take him to any vet they can not refuse to treat him if you just show up. Many can recover from a wound if it is caught in time.

PLEASE get him in to any vet ASAP.

Have a Good Day

Mr. Magoo

Friendly Reminder please have an e-collar ready before you need it......

Oh no... I hope your little guy made it through the night and that you were able to get good veterinary care for him. As Peggy said, at the very least, the vet could euthanize him if it's really gone too far cry At the best, they can help you get an E-Collar on him so that it will stay and can stitch him up...

Please take a few moments to register and post an update for us. I'm moving this over to Health & Hygiene now...

It is obvious she has given up. But... if your going to give up, do the humane thing and have him put to sleep. Why make him suffer, and he IS suffering, crazy?

Im sorry I didn't see this one earlier. I have a little man that tore his abdoman almost to his chest, and lived 36 days in an ecollar and has healed PERFECTLY. He is 110% now because of the quick acting on my part.

If he hasn't been allowed to do more damage, then get him to the vet to get sewn up and make the ecollar. My first couple tries didn't work but it did eventually work and it saved my guys life!
