hello all! we've had our girl, sweetie, since sunday. she's coming along slowly. needs alot of bonding for sure!

just one question, i'm sure you all hear all the time...will she pee & poo on us always?
i know that when they wake up they go but she goes all the time! she pees and poos on my me & my husband everytime she runs around on us, even if she's been awake in the cage for a while. it is worse if she's just woken tho.

is it just a fear response? she is still a bit scared of us.

does everyone have this problem even with bonded gliders?

We've had our two (neutered) boyz for 2 months and even though they are totally bonded they still pee on us every night. I hope it gets better but can live with it if it doesn't. I was thinking it was their way of marking us. I'll be looking for others to shed some light on this subject.

This does happen often to many....does it happen ALL the time? No it does not. sounds to me like she is still a bit freightened of her new surroundings if you are allowing her to be up for a while prior to taking her out of her cage.
And yes, lots of times they will mark you by *sprinkling* on you. Most the time now a days, I dont really have that problem unless I am just waking them up.

It will help if you give her some time before waking to play with her. Also I've seen it suggested that you keep a set or two of "playtime clothes" that you don't wash every day, so that their scent is already all over on them, which will cut down on the marking-type of activity.

Mine took a while to relax enough that they aren't constantly going around/on me.. they just were excited and still settling in.

Yeah, in my experience the urination problem decreases with time. I feel Neintales, gave some excellent advice. Designated glider clothes certainly helps!

Best of luck with your little one!

My Babies Pee & Poo on me alot, but I have just gotten use to it..As I read about this before I got mine..They can't be house broken or potty trained LOL Actually they don't do it as much on me & my family if it is just us in the house as they do it alot more if there are other people around that they really dont know...Hope this gets better for you..

Our Peekatchu was a part of our family for 5 years. She was a wild caught and went straight from the importer to my husband (along with several other gliders). Even after 5 years she stilled peed when we went up to her cage. I always laughed about it. I found it funny I guess because I still am not sure why she did it, lol. We were never able to tame her beyond getting her to come out when called for food, etc. I don't think your glider will stop doing it but as Neintales suggested, wait a bit after she wakens before taking her out

Take care
Lori

Mine are pretty good about not using us for a bathroom. So good, in fact, they'll usually jump OFF before they go. We get peed on more often when we're not willing to let them get down when they want.

Also if I wear clothes straight from the wash, they'll go on me like clockwork. The other day I got a whole set of clothes right from the dryer before work, went back upstairs to get my watch and the gliders were bouncing around the cage and hanging on the front like they wanted out. So I opened the door and they came scampering up my arm. Sniffed twice and took turns peeing on my shoulder. Shoulda known better, but they're so cute I can't leave them in the cage when they want to ride around on me.

It'll get better as you bond, but be very aware of smells. Fresh laundered clothes, cologne, perfume, deoderant (I've started wearing a scentless brand), shampoo/body wash (I use a light natural scented type), etc. It also helps if you rub your hands on their bedding before picking them up.

In a word, YES. You're lucky if you just catch it on your shoulder or arm...one time Minka crawled into my shirt, ran around the back & peed down my spine! It grossed my husband out to wipe my back off from shoulder to waist! But using a "cover up" shirt that's been sprinkled on repeatedly will help slow the problem down.

i just have a quick question about this? My dad is set on thinking that when i get my gliders they are going to pee out the cage wires and onto the carpet or walls...now he wants to make the whole backside of the cage we're building solid so they cant climb on the wire and pee out the back....is this really going to be a problem? plz help!

i don't really think that would be a big problem, but i only have one girl right now, so if u have a male that marks the cage may make this an issue. they are really messy with their food mostly. mine throws her food all over the cage some nights so it's a good idea to put some plastic sheeting or something on the walls and floor around the cage. making the sides solid might not be a good idea b/c they can't grab onto anything to climb. if it was just 1 side tho. it might be ok.
that's just my two cents!
I'm sure others will have a little more advice for you!

If you are worried about it you can always put a sheet on the back of the cage. It will save your walls and its easy to clean, it allows them to crawl and you can just throw it in the wash.

thanks guys...unfortunately my dad makes the decisions and he says the back has to be solid but we can buy lots of toys for them to play on for the back....i guess that'll be okay...i'll drape some sheets over for the sides so the food throwing isnt an issue for the nearby pool table! Glider food + felt = NOT GOOD!! haha well thanks for every1's ideas!
