I was at the petstore the other day and ran across a clicker. I bought it and am thinking of trying to clicker train my gliders once they have bonded to me. Has anyone here ever done that?

[:"blue"] There have been a number of posts by people who were going to experiment with it. I don't recall ever seeing follow-up posts indicating the results so I assume they were not very successful?? [/]

I'm clicker training. I started from day one. Everytime it's treat or play time I click. In less than 2 weeks they started coming out automatically. It's a less stressful way to get them going.

I was one of the people asking about clicker training much as you are, months ago, before I got my gliders. I didn't follow up because I never really got into it.
I clicker train my dogs, but somehow I just didn't get into it with the gliders. I've heard of animals even as low on the trainablity scale as fish and cats being clicker trained, though, so I suspect it can be done with gliders. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nixweiss.gif" alt="" />

I make the clicking sound myself for my gliders. I would think that the clicker thing you are talking about would scare a glider as loud as they are. But I just make the clicking sound like they do and they come running. Everytime I make the clicking sound they know they are going to get a treat so no matter where they are they come running fast.

I just had to add this. I unintentionally trained my gliders to start barking when my alarm goes off. My gliders get up late and I just can't stay up that late so I got another alarm clock and set it for 3:00 am so I can get up and play with my babies. Well now when they hear the alarm go off they go crazy!! It's so cute! It makes me feel good, too, knowing they're as anxious to play as I am!

I think that you could do that kind of behavioral training. And anyone who does not have access to a clicker could try whistling. I'm going to try that at night when she wakes up. I think whatever the noise the importance is consistancy and reward.
