Hey all, I was ordering my usual batch of insects for my chams and suggies from California silkworms and they have a special buy 1 get 1 free of praying mantis egg cases. They are easy to take care of after hatching and I have fed them once to my chams....this time I'll test it out with my kids too. A good treat!
Wow, I would probably just grow the mantis as a pet, I'd feel too bad giving it to a glider

One of the egg cases started hatching out today. I attached a pic! So cute! I'm feeding them baby silkworms right now....too bad they'll be feeders for my chams and suggies. Maybe I'll keep one....
Lol, after seeing that, I just went and ordered some. Really, for the price, it's a good deal. Now, hopefully either my beardies or my gliders like that, lol.
Awwww! Look at the teeny tiny little baby Mantis'sssss How cute is that?!!! Hmmmmm, I may need some of those for pets.
how neat.. I would love a few for my garden and I know my neighbor would too, but I will wait until AFTER moving to try to do anyting like this, I can't see putting them in a house for sale and not spooking prospective buyers... the glider cage is enough to be adding...
How neat! When I was a kid I had a pet mantis... he was the class pet, in fact. I wouldn't have any qualms about feeding them to the gliders, though, but I know I'd end up keeping one for myself. I had such fun hunting down bugs for the mantis and watching her eat.

I got my egg sacks in the mail today. They are just awesome too... I've attached a picture of one of them... I plan on keeping at least 1 or 2 of the baby mantis, I'm going to work on a special "cage" for it some time this week. Now I need to go find myself a really big pickle jar...

Hey Leyna, my second egg case starting hatching yesterday. I have nymphs all over the place now! I recommend getting some deli cups and a pet store that sells flightless fruitflies for them. It's pretty neat watching them eat....and I saw one taking down and eating one of it's siblings yesterday.
Oh my! How long did they take to hatch? I'm so excited about them, didn't think about fruit flies at all though... I have a mealie farm that almost always has wee tiny little baby mealies in it, I was thinking they could eat some of them, fruit flies aren't a bad idea either...
ok I found one of those egg sacs in my yard what am I supposed to do with it to get them to hatch? Thanks Leyna for the pic I was going to let my son take it to school for science class but not now. I ran straight out and took it back from where I put it for him lol. If you will send me info on them I'd be grateful. Thanks []ccburton_1@msn.com[/]
Just wanted to say that I ordered some from them, and both egg cases arrived in under 2 business days, neatly packaged and in wonderful shape. I highly recommend this company to anyone considering ordering from them. I can't want until they start hatching!
I should get some kind of commission! J/K
All the nymphs from both of mine are out and about. Get ready to have alot of deli cups and fruitflies! I got some info from some fellow chameleon keepers who've had some experience with them and just a few pointers: mist the container that they're in so that it keeps humid, they're susceptible to bacterial infections so not all will survive...if you keep about 10 in one deli cup the survival rate will be better just so that if they do get something it won't spread.
Mine are getting a little bigger...it's hard to tell cause they're still so small. I will keep updating their progress and everybody else do too!
