[:"blue"] Anybody see the 20/20 report tonight on bottled water?? They compared 5 or 6 brands of bottled water with free water from a public fountain in a New York City park.

Results:

1. Quality test-samples of all of the waters were sent to a lab for analysis and all were found to be equally safe. Noe were deemed to be better or worse than any other.

2: Taste test-Best tasting was the cheapest brand...the store brand sold by K-Mart. The worst tasting brand was the most expensive brand...Evian. The tap water tied for third place with Aquafina which is made by Pepsi and is the most popular brand by sales. According to 20/20 most of the bottled waters are just tap waters that have been reprocessed. One even comes from the Detroit River....yuck!!!

I have sampled water from a few public sources that were really terrible because of the dissolved minerals; but as a general rule, purchasing bottled water would seem to be a waste of money.

Agreed. I saw a different show that referred to the study.

this has long been true, but in areas where there are issues with tap water (the township I live in has contaminated water from a chemical spill that has been cleaned to the point of "pure" but causes me migraines- why I bring in water from elsewhere, and will use similar water for my gliders) then bottled water is a good alternative. Also some cities have water with higher levels of some chemicals acceptable for humans and not animals- a friend lost fish a # of times till she was told there was a lot of amonia (?) in her local water adn given an additive to neutralize it.

I had to chuckle when Evian came in last place, .

Does it taste that bad Karin I have good water here but always bought bottled drinking water in Arizona. The water out there although safe for human consumption was just plain NASTY Maybe that's where Evian is bottled.

Actually Carrie, I have never tasted it, but the price is ridiculous for that stuff...I guess it is imported from France? The Walmart brand came in 2nd I think, for like 2/3 the price.

I haven't had it in years, but evian has more minerals in it- tastes more like many peoples wells that I know of then most seriously filtered city water supplies, so is an aquired taste.

[:"blue"] Evian is a bottled spring water as opposed to a processed tap water so it is reasonable to assume it has a stronger taste than the others and one that a lot of people might not find agreeabled at the first exposure.

lol - all water tastes the same to me?? Did the lab tests mention anything about the high levels of oestrogen in the water?? I read an article about the high levels of this hormone causing the fish in the Thames to be infertile, apparently no amount of purification can remove oestrogen form the water supply - it's a worrying thought.
