I've only seen a total of two ring tailed gliders in the nine years I have been researching them...are they an entirely different line like white tips or are they just so insanely rare that you never hear about them?
how much do they usualy go for? The only breeder I've seen is asking 2k. How rare is the gene to pass on to joeys if bred with a pure leucistic or a clasic grey? Or a champagne? Any idea who else breeds them? I find this very interesting.
Wow, I hadn't seen all those pictures from The Pet Glider. I thought a ringtail would just have one ring around its tail. That one looked like a lemur, lol! I love that one under "The Newest Generation" with the white arms! Someone had posted that picture before, but I had forgotten about it. Priscilla's just got all kindsa color!

I think the ringtail gene is a throw of the WT gene. A few months back, AmyMichelle managed to save a screen shot of the Australian Wilflife Cam (GliderCam) with a picture of a white tip glider next to a glider with a ring on it's tail (it didn't have multipul rings from what we could see, just 1). I've attached that picture...
Also, I have a male glider, Brodey. He has a thin white ring on his tail. He him self has never produced a WT, but his daughter did produce a joey with a teeny tiny WT. I'll attack a picture of his tail next...

Here's a picture of Brodey's tail. Currently, I have him paired with a white tip... Maybe I'll get some WT of ringtailed joeys Wishful thinking...

[:"green"]Wow! Those ringtailed gliders are incredible! I had no idea how defined the rings would be!!! I have a female that is supposedly a ringtail-het, but I don't know if it's really true or not. She is mated with a very silver-colored normal male. Maybe I'll get lucky someday??? One can only hope!
For now...the Ringtail appears to be be coming from the mosaic or calico lines.
One breeder has produced them by breeding a leucistic and platinumn together. No leucistic in the platinumn glider.
The ringtail pattern does not breed true as of yet. Otherwords...some of the offspring will have full white tails with no bands at all, or faint banding or exhibit only one white band.
Actually, Judie, that's not correct. There is at least 1 breeder, possibly 2 (I haven't confirmed it myself), that has produced ringtails from WFB's. The case I have confirmed came from 2 third gen WFB's, the other one I, I haven't confirmed, but supposedly it came from 2 WFB parents.
The breeder I mentioned is not Priscilla and is rather private.
Priscilla has several generations of them but I did not mention her as Snow White has yet to be proven as to wither or not she has the leucistic gene. If by chance she does...then she herself... should be a double het.
The line that is producing the ringtails may be a sex linked gene as the males do not seem to produce. Only the females do. My guess is...perhaps it will take three or four generations of breeding before the males are able to produce.
I do have an offspring from the Ringtail in the photo. A female who has three full white leggings and fluffy white tail. Her name is Rebecca and I aquired her from Priscilla. I have paired Rebecca to a 66% leucistic het.
I also have a little 50% Het male I purchased from Priscilla.....out of Prince and a 100% Leucistic Het named Sapphire. Sapphire was produced from Sesamie(BEW) and Sandman(WF Blonde). Offspring's name is "Running Bear". He is of normal coloration. This little one is paired to a third generation WF Blonde.
Now...it is wait and see so to speak... as to what they may produce four or five months from now and even then it may not be anything special till the second or third time around.
It is really hard trying to figure out the genetics on some of these special colored gliders. So only by breeding them can we understand as to how the gene may work and then that is not much. On the other hand...it will be more than what we knew yesterday.
The two WF Blondes breeding of a ringtail...I beleive was mentioned here on Glider Central and is out of the Sandman lineage. However, I do not think a photo of it has been posted and thus it is questionable.
Now wouldn't it be something if the Ringtail did come from the wf blonde?
Just thought i'd put up a picture of my little ringtail baby She came from priscilla's ringtail and champagne. You cant see in the picture but she has a white tip and dull white ring about an inch from her tip.

I would have one of every color, just for my own personal enjoyment if they were available. Normal to albino's they are all just adorable.
i am with you Jackie I would lvoe to haveone of every color..
In a realtionship with the man i am going to marry I am in Cuero Texas with 3 kids. I am the mother of 4 kids and the soon to be step mother of 5 more. I have only one set of gliders. My kids are Sandra 16,Alex 12, Juanita 7 and Kathy 4 Whitney 13, Taylor 11, Charity 9 Brent 10 and Austin 5
The genetics of it all is just so interesting to me… and with so many keeping ‘score’ / track of what/ who came form what is any one working on a BIG family tree for all these guys that are being bread for specific outcomes?
Yes Genetics are FUN. Some one is doing it with Leucistics i know his name is Chris but not sure about his GC name I know it but not how to spell it....
You're talking about Ushuaia. He's keeping a genealogy of all leucistic sugar gliders... He doesn't track all hets though unless they have produced leucistics.
O okay I searched all this time then you knew how to spell it thats not cool for me but for you.... I'll spell it any ways... Ushuaia :roflmaop
