It's hard to say what's causing them to fight without seeing what's going on, but PLEASE separate them right away. Check them both over very well and see if they're injured. If they are take them to the vet. After you've taken care of that, come back and tell us more about the situation and we'll try to help you figure it out from there.

I would be afraid to leave them alone together not knowing what caused it, but that's just me. There are a number of reasons why they may have fought. Maybe one had a morsel of food the other wanted, or a toy they both felt was theirs, both trying to establish the alpha position, or even illness. Whenever there is a change in behavior like that it's a good idea to have a wellness exam and explain the situation to the vet. It's possible that one isn't acting like herself due to the fact that something is hurting her. Is it at all possible that you have a male and a female rather than 2 females? Just bringing that up because sometimes mating can seem more like fighting. It's happened before that someone thought they had 2 females and actually had a male and female, so if that's it you wouldn't be the first to make the mistake. At any rate, if you're going to keep them together make sure you keep a very close eye on them and separate them for good until you figure out what the problem is if it happens again. If it were me I think I'd separate them until a vet visit just in case, but that's my .02. Good luck with them and keep us updated.

I agree with Sugar Mama, on all points. You said they are about two years. Are you sure? I, too, am wondering if they may be younger and you may have a boy in there just reaching maturity. They girls can get mean with the boys if he trys and she isn't ready. If you keep them apart, but cages close, you can watch and make sure they are both acting normal otherwise, have a vet check them, then try reuniting them in a few days. That's my .02 worth.......now you've got .04!

ok maybe it was an atmosphere thingie. Mine were nuts last night. No one was aloud to touch food. i would cause dangit im mom i do what i want. But one would go near a food bowl and get attacked. We watched them i pssssssssssttttttttted at them i even threatened all three with a trip to the vet for some snip action and many of you know im pro testiculars as long as they dont abuse the privilage. So they calmed down when darrel threatened to chop the cage into 2 cages if they couldnt get along. Then tonight they are playing and kissing each other. I think it must have been something in the air or the moon affecting them. With us we think it was the thunderstorm we got hit with last night.
