I was holding Dusty earlier while he was sleeping, he woke up for the nite and he was fine at first and then started crabbing so i put my hand in his little pouch that i made out of a bandana, and then he bit me pretty hard. He laid on his back with his hands up and was crabbing. so i just kept petting him and he was still a little uneasy. then he started to bite the bandana so i though he must be hungry so i put him in his cage and went and got him his breakfast and he ate about half and then went up into his hammick. So usually we have tent time. i gave him about a half hour to lett him pee and let his food settle. i put my hand in the cage and tryed to get him to come to me and he lunged but didn't bite. He was comming to me and now i don't know what happened , i know it is part of bonding but is this a step back? i don't know what to do, do i foce him out and have tent time and try to play, or could it be he is in a bad mood and just wants to stay in his cage? Please help!!

sounds like there was a smell on you that he didn't like. At least that's the behavior my kiddos exhibit in that situation. Try washing your hands and arms really well, perhaps change clothes, then tempt him with a licky treat.

I don't really know long you have had him or how far you have come in your bonding, but the little one might just be pouch protective still. My little girl does that. She'll run all over me during tent time and is mostly fine, but as soon as she is either cornered or in her pouch she revert back to an attack dog! Or, like Monster suggested, it could be the smell on your hands. Or possibly he was just really tired and wanted to be left alone. There are nights where my gliders don't get playtime because they felt like sleeping in. Most of the time they are right on schedule (9 wake-up for mealies, take a little nap or run in the wheel for 10 minutes or so, and then playtime!) but every once in a while, they just want some extra beauty sleep. HTH
